Youtube
- Respond to the article about YouTube and music piracy. Do you agree that piracy is obsolete or on the way out because of YouTube? What long-term effect do you think that the availability of most major-label singles for free use on YouTube will have on record companies? What effects will YouTube have on the music industry in general?
I will start by stating before YouTube, I possessed music in my cd collection, and among them many of them I came to realize they were not original but pirated. Since internet access and YouTube came, I have never listened to the CDs again. I believe that piracy is becoming obsolete because individuals are no longer interested in owning pirated copies of music. in some years to come, piracy will be long gone because no one will be interested in in the pirated copies. Piracy occurred because finding particular music sometime back was hard. Currently, access to music is easy, and you only need to search for music on YouTube and listen. Music piracy will end because no one will be interested in such copies which cost money to buy, while you can play it for free on YouTube.
Sometime back, many artists released music in albums which contained several music singles. Currently releasing singles is more prominent, and the trend will continue because artists will earn more. As noted in the article David Guetta earned more on YouTube than he would do if his music was released through paid access. Prominent artists will release more singles and upload them on YouTube because they will gain more. The artists will ensure they release music within short durations to ensure their fans are up to date. Artists know that more views are equal to more revenues. Therefore, in the long term, I expect artists to release more singles from different genres.
Youtube will help the music industry grow because new artists will compose music and freely upload in youtube where they are likely to market themselves easily and earn more incomes. Youtube also will lead to the growth of music through out in the world increasing the audience. for example; I have listened to different music genres from different cultures which I did not do in the past.
