What is EUPOL COPPS?
The European Union Police and Rule of Law Mission for the Palestinian Territory came to be on 1st January 2006. The mission is to help the Palestinian authority build up the people’s security, the justice system and ensure the people’s safety. The EUPOL COPPS has taken upon building a humanitarian society for the Palestinian people to uphold gender-based issues. Through involvement and supporting the Palestinian justice system and the police, they decided to implement the law and create peace, law, and order.
How can international civilian police roles, duties, and responsibilities at the micro, meso, and macro levels in this peace operation be improved?
- Meso level
The levels established to access political influences and provide operational transparency that ensured a unified organizational structure. The assessment of accountability, human rights violations, and corruption practices are done. Through the implementation of ensuring adequate resources causes an improvement of police administrations. The process of recruiting administrators should have a sway towards ensuring they accommodate gender balance and different ethnicity. The act provides that the police department has a better way to perform their duties due to different perspectives.
- Macro-level.
The state-level objective was to improve the security’s effectiveness to state law enforcement. They had an assistant from the inter- police who fought to prevent escalation of regional, national, and transnational crimes. The provision of improvement of the institutions and border services at the state level will enable security growth. With the establishment of the State Information and Protection Agency, they gain entry towards information and top securities for the important; they can gather, analyze, and distribute the data needed in security risks. Through the creation of international security facilities, protection from global security risks heightened.
- Micro-level
The mission is to ensure that they change their local police force into a professional, restructured task force. Through engaging individual and group training and background check, the process provides the recruited person’s effectiveness skills and performance. Through the teachings of humanity and respect for rights, the abuse to people will lessen.
