“There Will Come Soft Rains” was written in 1950 by Bradbury, and it shows how humans are going to meet their fate. He shows how the world will be changing, especially relating to the 21st century. In the short story, Bradbury suggested that nature is capable of overwhelming humans despite all the revolutions that industrial modernizations have undergone. He shows the accomplishment that man might have achieved on earth while living through technological advancement alongside the all-powerful nature. In the short story “There Will Come Soft Rains,” The house that is automated shows a home structure that is innovative with technology showing the recent accomplishments of humans. This essay will respond to Bradbury’s prediction of how houses would look and function in the 21st century, comparing this to the homes today and making educated guesses about what houses will be like in the next twenty years.
Ray Bradbury predicted how houses would function and look in the twenty-first century because he describes the houses to be automated. In the short story, Ray Bradbury explains how the houses will be programmed and automated using humankind’s hand (Bradbury, 1989). These houses started to speak of the downfall of the man. He says in the twenty-first-century, humankind will build strong buildings with towers and are very magnificent in the world (Bradbury, 1989). Even though the buildings will be beautiful and magnificent, in the end, they will deteriorate no matter how they were built and studied using a strong architectural foundation. Ray Bradbury predicted well when he said all this because picking an example from my previous school, our school library was a massive building with erected towers. Its construction was very artistic and is build using technological assistance that entailed the use of equipment as bulldozers. Despite all this energy that could help preserve the building from sinking up to date, it is still sinking. It is right according to the short story because one day, it will surrender to the earth, and hence nature will be numb to it.
Compared to houses today, Ray Bradbury s predictions come to be true because many houses in our country are built using advanced technological equipment. For example, in this twenty-first century, most houses people live in are more advanced when it comes to technology (Bradbury, 1989). Owning of washing machines, the use of tinted glasses, the use of more automated machines, and the use of robots show man’s technological advancement. He predicted due to nature, houses made by man can never outsmart the nature of the universe (Bradbury, 1989). This is true because houses in this twenty-first century are crumbling over and falling because of the natural damage; the equipment owned in the houses such as washing machines and robots will succumb. His predictions are accurate because even in the short story, he says the house caught fire, and the flames move from room to room and even reach the stairs, which is happening in the houses we live in today (Bradbury, 1989). Educational guesses about how the houses will look like in the coming twenty years will even have more advancements in technology than the twenty-first century, causing more doom to humankind. The houses will be more prominent and much more beautiful than those in the twenty-first century, but no matter how we feel that the technology we use is powerful, there is no day that man will defeat nature.
