The Reminiscence Group

Section one

The primary purpose of this group is to unlock profoundly priceless memories of those who are left with few memories and therefore gives others the opportunity for conversation. This group composes of eight members who are very active, vocal and have a good command of their language. They are also those who can stand up and speak for themselves. The members include:

Antonio

Francisca

Victoria

Andrew

Mercy

Victor

Thomas

Evelyn

This group works under a specific time frame set to meet all the targeted group during their aid activity. This is usually during spring and winter since during this period most people are generally indoors and therefore need more help than other seasons such as summer time. The group leader is based on gender equity where we have one male and one female representative. There is a chairperson a deputy chair and the secretary their main aim is to ensure the group management runs smoothly.

Section two

The work of the reminiscence is to ensure improvement in the quality of lives of the seniors and their psychological wellbeing especially for those in the nursing homes. The following ethical principles are put in place to ensure a good working environment for both the members and those in need of the group aid; (a) truthfulness and confidentiality, where the target group are expected to be true with their information and the members in helping are to be confident with the target group information. (b) Autonomy; where every individual has a right to self-determination and freedom of making their own decision regarding the work. (c) informed consent where everyone involved knows what is expected by the end of the group session and about what the group is expected to achieve.

The work progress of this group involves re-embracing, reviewing and re-evaluating the personal life experience based on the past lives events that one has gone through. Following the objectives of this group that there we believe that through reminiscence people with few memories will have their minds increased and will, therefore, have their self-acceptance increased they will be able to provide their perspective on any matter arising and finally their past conflicts can be quickly resolved. In the work progress, the group developed some modalities which will help it achieve its set goals.

These models include a simple reminiscence, review of lives and the therapy of life review. The reminiscence model is employed on those whose mental health is in excellent condition and is only in need of a simple recollection for affirmative biographical events on the contrary life reviewing model concentrates equally on both the negative and the positive memories that surround one’s entire life. This model is crucial when determining one’s life’s’ history. The life review therapy in the model is part of the group model that is used for seniors who have mental conditions and cannot review their memories appropriately. This group of people is profoundly affected by depression so for one to assist them one has to reframe the undesirable memories with the desirable ones it majorly aims at re-building.

Group cultures are often developed over time depending on its objectives, the beliefs and the behaviors of the members, with the reminiscence group the purpose of being together is to help those few memories.

The norms of the reminiscence group are; behavioral norms where punctuality is expected from any member of the group it is supposed to be a habit so that any member completes the given task within the time assigned and showing respect to other members of the group. The work norm regulates the performance of the members on the group duty assigned. The reminiscence group enforces the compliance with work norm by awarding those who comply with the work policy. The members are expected to behave appropriately in line with the roles assigned to them.

Since the reminiscence group composes of a few individuals, the communication channeled to the members directly to the members from the head to the last person. The stages of development of this group include the forming step where the group was formed and its objectives set for the members to focus on its success. The storming stage where the group leader has to learn the characters of each member before assigning them any duty. The norming stage in this stage the group norms are set clearly for the members to guide the behaviors of the members. The performing stage in this stage the group leader is confidence with the members and can now assign them any duty. The leader also has time to determine the performance of the group members and reward them accordingly. Adjournment stage in this stage once the group objectives are met the chair has the right to call off the group and thank all the members for their participation.

Third section

Literature review

Reminiscence group is entitled to providing those with few memories with high memories especially the elderly so that they can be able to gain their lost minds. The group is focused on addressing the issues of low memories in elderly and the depressed individuals which we found out to be at a rising level, so we aim at reducing the rate at which these people are getting affected. The percentage of depression is rising due to the low price of counseling offered (chang’ 204). This group is focused on working with every affected individual and ensure that they get what they need and gain their lost memories back. It also focuses on ensuring a good relationship between the members of the group in providing excellent services to those in need of the group services. The membership of the group is attained through registration; therefore only the registered members are allowed to participate in any group activity.

Group dynamics; reminiscence was formed by a small number of individual who was interested in developing the memories of those who have little memories due to depression or even the old groups. The group dynamics are essential areas of studying the organizational; the group also develops depending on the group activities, group sentiments and the interactions of the members with other people (George Homans 27).

Members present;

Evelyn- the chairperson

Andrew- deputy chair

Victoria –secretary

Mary -in attendance

Thomas – member

Victor-member

Mercy-member

Francisca- member

The current members were seated in that order from chair to the last mentioned member. The communication was channeled from the chairperson to the members present, and their opinions were noted down by the secretary.

The main agenda of the group meeting was based on their ways of expanding and adding more members to the group for a compelling performance. The discussion was also based on the behaviors’ of the members by reviewing the norms of the group. The members agreed on how and when they will always be doing their work to have adequate performance for high ratings and the group rewards.

Role behaviors of the members showed an excellent code of conduct during the meeting, and they behaved well about the tasks assigned to them by the team leader. This was very impressing, and other interested members found it easy to join and register as group members. During the session, the communication pattern was centered on the chair, and the opinions of the attendants were also considered important.

Norms that were operating during this session were like behavioral norms where each member behaved in a right manner; the dressing code was good and decent enough to impress others, the punctuality of the members for the meeting was also recognized as an essential behavioral norm. The theme of development was the most underlying topic of discussion during the session. During this session, the social aspect of group member was revealed as the most crucial way to develop the group. The course was very successful, and its set objectives were met that was a great achievement congratulation to madam chair for conducting such an excellent meeting.

Modalities are often merged [7]. The structure and format of reminiscence interventions also vary considerably across studies. Generally, reminiscence treatments last six weeks or longer and include at least one or two sessions per week, each session lasting between one and two hours. Moreover, reminiscence activities ca Group dynamics refers to the attitudinal and behavioral characteristics of a group. Group dynamics concern how groups form, their structure and process, and how they function. Group dynamics are relevant in both formal and informal groups of all types. N be performed either one-to-one or in groups. Reminiscence groups include between six and eight participants and are usually managed by institutional care workers or psychologists.
