The dust bowl
The dust bowl was caused by several economic factors and agricultural factors that included: land policies that had been amended by the federal law, changes in the climate, economic changes in the farmlands, among other issues. After the civil war that led to depression among the Americans, there were a series of federal land acts that persuaded the pioneers of the west side by incentivizing farming activities in that were happening in the great plains. The invention of the Homestead Act of 1862 provided the settlers with large tracks of land, followed by more acts such as the Kinkaid act and the Enlarged Homestead Act that was evolved in 1909.
The development of these acts that we’re favoring the many people led to an increase of farmers whore were poor with some inexperienced into the great plain. During the reign of the late nineteenth and early twenty centuries, many of the settlers led their lives following fantastic superstitions such as how the rain follows the plow. Many individuals such as immigrants, politicians, speculators, and even some scientists held the belief that homesteading and living together would have a great impact on climate and the known semi aridity found in the regions under the great plains and making the climate of the area more conducive for farming, and hence more productivity around the region.
Many alluded that this belief was linked to a hypothesis known as manifest destiny, which held that all the Americans had a sacred deity to explore and venture more into the west. That year there was a series of cold seasons that lead to confusion and misunderstanding of the area by scientists because of its hanging ecological nature. This aspect led to intensive farming and cultivation activities of the marginal land that initially could not be reached by the irrigation system of that era.
During the approach of the ages of 1920, there was an increased demand for wheat by the Europeans during the first-word war that encouraged the majority of farmers I the great plain to intensify in the production of more wheat and other products such as corn that made more of the grasslands to be cleared to get more farmland to increase the productivity. However, as the American nation entered the reign of the great depression, the prices of wheat considerably hiked than usual prices. The farmers, on the other hand, made a great effort to tore up a majority of the grasslands to make even more wheat to satisfy the demand that was at hand at that time while living under the conditions shaped by the great depression
The dust bowl emerged around the 1930s and lasted for a short period, but its impacts lasted for a longer. The Midwest was hit by severe dust storms that emerged in 1931. These impacts of the dust bowl were led by the greed of the farmers of clearing more land to make more crops or rather the need for more money
