The CLCPA

Introduction

The CLCPA is meant to conduct an analysis of the competence of cultural and linguistic aspects in four different dimensions. These include structure, value, policy, and practice. Therefore, the CLPA examines knowledge of different communities, personal engagement in different communities, Organizational Philosophy, Connections and Resources, Human resources, medical practice, and involvement of different communities.

Under the value diversity awareness, I perceive the human difference in a positive aspect and as a trigger for celebration. I know myself in terms of my personal ethnicity, my race, and cultural identity (Engelman & Deardorff, 2016). In order for any individual to learn about the culture of other people, they first of all need to learn their own culture and understand it fully before actually deciding to share it with others. I have knowledge concerning this perspective, and it makes difficult situations that could lead to cultural misunderstandings very easily.

Discomforts are meant to occur whenever you meet people of a distinct race, religion, language, color, sexual orientation, and different ethnicity. I know the nature of my discomfort, and this has helped me navigate through different uncomfortable situations, matters to do with religion, race, and ethnic backgrounds constantly bring quarrels among individuals due to lack of a clear understanding of one another (Engelman & Deardorff, 2016). I am aware of the aspects of the assumption that I have concerning different individuals who belong to cultures that are not my own.

It is in order that an individual develops the ability to challenge their own stereotypes. I know and understand my stereotypes as they come up and have developed individual strategies for minimizing the harm that they lead to.  I know the manner in which my cultural point of view impacts my judgment concerning matters that are appropriate, superior actions, communication strategies, and values.

The act of being ambiguous is part of everyone, and we cannot avoid it sometimes but can avoid it when we are aware of our own ambiguities. I agree that in cross-cultural circumstances, uncertainty can exist and can make me feel anxious (Jernigan et al., 2016). At the same time, it can imply that I lack the ability to respond faster and take my time to obtain more information. I like to grab any chance that puts me in contexts where I can obtain knowledge concerning differences and establish relationships.

Individuals need to be aware of social justice matters as they have great impacts on our everyday lives. I have knowledge concerning the influence of the social context on a culturally different population, and the manner in which power, social oppression, and privilege impact their lives (Jernigan et al., 2016). I have a characteristic of making a mistake and gaining new knowledge from it so that I don’t repeat it again.

For a person to comfortably live with people of diverse cultures, they, first of all, need to examine the extent of the knowledge they have. I will acknowledge that the knowledge I have of particular cultural groups is not much but limited, and try to focus on making opportunities so that I can learn more. Before asking questions, I will, first of all, listen to responses given by others (Villa & Thousand, 2016). I have equally learned to recognize the significance of diversity. I am aware that diversity in ethnicity, color, and culture are vital aspects of a person’s identity, which they have value upon, and so do I. I refuse to blind myself from seeing the value of a color.

Culture has so many influences it brings with it. People, therefore, need to understand these impacts so that they know how to cope in different life situations. I acknowledge that different cultures adjust as time passes by, and the adjustment varies from individual to individual, just like being attached to culture. I understand that for cultural competence to be achieved, a commitment must be made on learning over time.
