Texas Right to Life Committee

The united states of America have numerous interest groups, which represent issues such as abortion, food and agriculture, education, immigration, sexual orientation and gender identity, among other issues. This paper focuses on the Texas Right to Life Committee, its purpose, the activities it engages itself in, its incentives and power in the united states. The paper also reflects on the benefits one would gain on joining the interest group.

Texas Right to Life Committee traces its origin to the 1960s when Texas citizens joined their social workers, lawyers, ministers, and doctors in testifying to protects the laws of the state of safeguarding unborn children. The union strengthened and coordinated their defence for the innocent, unborn human life. Its operational challenge intensified when Doe v. Bolton and Roe v. Wade challenged these laws that protected the unborn.  The group fights for the rights of the elderly, the sick, the disabled, the unborn and the nascent humans created in laboratories. The group is a Christian organisation which articulates and protects the Right to life of the defenceless through prayerful, legal and peaceful means (Clingerman). The belief that each person has an inalienable right to life and immeasurable dignity from fertilization to death drives the group’s commitment. They mainly achieve their goals of bringing change to the Texans by educating the people on the sanctity and innocence of human life. The group has been oriented towards advancing the culture of life and building God’s kingdom.

This group uses its website to publicize their cause and create awareness on the benefits of life. To achieve this goal, the group participates in several activities. First, it has a donation section in its website, where it quotes Matthew 6:21, “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be”. The sacrificial donations made to this group saves the lives of these marginal groups by supporting its education and outreach programs, political endeavours, public policies and legislation. The finances sponsor the pregnant and nursing mothers in college, stands for training costs and mentorship programs, pays interns and pays tuition fees for pregnant teenagers using these funds(Clingerman). In legislation matters, the funds cater for electronic education delivery of information, ensuring compliance to the pro-life laws. In contrast, the funds apportioned political campaigns sponsor the pro-life radio ads and television ads for the representative races for the Texas House.

This group is concerned with pregnancy, healthcare, adoption, abortion, euthanasia among several issues. It recommends adoption as an alternative to abortion. Abortion causes pain to the mother, while adoption ensures a happy life for the kids and hope for the mother. It also fights against doctors’ strikes which deny patients of required healthcare. Texas is currently experiencing the 10-day rule, which leaves patients at the mercy of their doctors(Clingerman). The committee’s union has helped save lives of the voiceless and defenceless people of the society. It also contributes to the Texas political decisions.

This group is a mainstream establishment for the citizens of the state of Texas. It uses inflammatory language when describing the right to life, and has been accepted by the Texans. The Texans support the group, in donations, during demonstrations and when opposing or proposing specific policies. However, on a national perspective, the group in an extreme one. Most American states legalise abortion. The group is therefore only accepted by a tiny population of the Americans. The group lacks a convention and normality of operation for the greater American society. This makes it mainstream among its inventors and first-hand beneficiaries of its activities, while it remains an extreme group to the rest of the Americans.

Getting a chance to work with Texas Right to Life Committee would be an eye-opening experience. I have been an advocate for life, and I find fulfilment in seeing people live and take care of unwanted pregnancies.  I would have supported their goals. I would have addressed its negative influences. I would be keen on auditing how it spends the funds it receives from donations. Considering the fine imposed on the pro-life group for funding an illegal political radio ad, I would ensure that the funds are used for legal activities(Gustafsson).  I would also encourage the group to get into a consensus with the Catholic church bishops, who have created conflicts with the group on end-of-life reforms. The Catholic bishops were supporting death by euthanasia while this pro-life group advocate for life till naturalization of their death (Gustafsson). Being a rational individual, I would have urged the group to support the catholic church on legalization of euthanasia. This comes from prior experience, where I lost my best friend to kidney failure.

When my friend realised that he was not recovering from the deadly ailment, he requested for mercy killing, since he did not want his family to suffer the side effects of his expensive treatment. His family was against his decision, and they spent all their savings, sold their property, borrowed loans, but he died, leaving them destitute, traumatised and emotionally weakened. The father committed suicide while the mother became mad after the pressure of the loans exceeded. Rather than investing too much cash on terminal illnesses, the pro-life group can opt to agree with the church, that a person has the right to choose whether to live or die through euthanasia. Those that choose euthanasia by will should be granted their wish, but the group can first counsel such patients to ensure that mercy-decision is the best decision to take after suffering from illnesses.

Joining the Texas Right to Life Committee would expose me to the prominent people who act as the voice to the voiceless.  I would get a chance to participate in educational and training programs which help in promoting the right to life. My most incredible pride would be the acquisition of knowledge on the disabled, the unborn and the elderly, and how to take care of them so that they find the meaning of life. I would also get a platform to attend political events which have always been one of my wildest dreams.

Texas for life committee has been a significant body to Texas. First, it helps protect the sanctity of life by discouraging abortions. If the children who have been rescued by its mission were to speak, they would thank the institution for giving them a chance to live again. The team has also helped promote the education of dejected ladies who thought that their education was terminated for being pregnant.  The group has also helped the elderly and the disabled who would have been killed through the authorisation of law. Most importantly, it offers care to pregnant mothers and rescues the defenceless from the 10-day rule, which would have permeated their execution.
