Technology has changed an individual’s lifestyle and continues to course changes. It has significantly affected communication as it has changed its channels from the past to the present. It is good to note how far communication has progressed through technology. It has transitioned from email to chats to blogs, social media networks, and more recently to Twitter, Facebook, and skype. Therefore, communicating with people has changed in numerous ways. Individuals usually get in touch with each other through technology currently rather than speaking with each other face to face (Dehgani & Navimipour, 2019. Pg. 2).
The transition of communication channels has witnessed a significant change from traditional media to the modern use of technology and globalization. The old-fashioned printed press such as letter via snail mail, telephone invention, answering the machine, pager, and fax machines represents the channels of communication in the days where innovation was slow. These devices have witnessed technological shifts whereby human beings’ relationships and communication have evolved. They are considered to add further development, including answering discoveries that have attracted revolutionary to the present, taking the advancement from one level to another. The most common method individuals converse and discuss issues with others is through the phone, which was invented before 1996. They have developed throughout the years, leading to creating a smartphone that houses all kinds of new communication ways and techniques, thus increasing socialization (Dehgani & Navimipour, 2019. Pg. 3).
In the current world where technology has thrived, communication has advanced through emails, Facebook, instant message, the use of Twitter, webinars, and live chatting, skype as so many options require more comprehensive ranges of communication. Younger people of today lack knowledge in letter sending as they are getting more on social networking connecting with people from different parts of the world. Therefore technology has changed communication in different ways. Firstly, technology has changed the way people communicate with each other through social networking sites. Social networking sites include Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, whereby the most popular I Facebook transmitting information globally to millions of people at the same time. Secondly, technology has changed marketing communication in businesses as multiple channels are used in disseminating information to numerous people at the same time. More new means of communication are being incorporated in organizing a more effective communication between the businesses and the customers, including attracting new customers through bulk or group messaging. Similarly, the social network has become the most effective and efficient method used in the advertisement (Epstein, 2018. Pg. 4).
Lastly, technological advancements have increased communication devices and channels whereby there are growth and overabundance of the modern tools of transmission information, which are cheaper and faster. Therefore, it is more accessible for the user to stay connected to many people at home and the workplace, creating the right working environment (Epstein, 2018. Pg. 4). Different types of electronic tools connected to the internet permit individuals to call, text, or speak with any person at any time. Therefore, the availability of communication has changed, resulting in s shift in interpersonal relationships. The current communication has changed to virtual and not personal. For example, one may be video calling with a friend over the smartphone and not realizing they have developed a deeper relationship with the phone and not the friend (Dehgani & Navimipour, 2019. Pg. 4). Technology has altered communication which in turn have affected both social, economic, and political lifestyle. Today, political rallies and champagnes are done online, teaching and education are practiced online through zoom, and social problems are solved through media.
