Question 1

During the spelling lesson, in attempts to make the students more attentive and concerned with their spelling, I will make it clear to them that their readers perceive them through what they write and especially if they understand the message you intended to pass. A reader will feel more respected if they understand what the writer meant. It is important to remember that wrong spelling alters the meaning of words. My goal will be to make my students “effective” spellers apart from “good spellers.” I will employ strategies and tools that will equip them with confidence as they write and from their effective spelling capabilities they will always find their way even through difficult spellings.

Question 2

The most engaging spelling strategy I have witnessed is a kid’s game that they called Sparkle. The children including the teacher make a circle, and the teacher says a list word after which the next student in the line says the first letter and that cycle follows until all the letters are completed. Then the next student says the next list word and the cycle continues. If a student says a wrong word, they get to sit down.

Question 3

I will encourage my students to develop a love for words by having them get involved in exciting word games. Get them involved with books that hook them on spelling and ensure they are doing the exercises so that they learn something and be perfect spellers and not for the teacher.

Question 4

Student’s performance can be profoundly affected when students develop a fear of spelling errors. To adequately solve this problem the teacher should make sure the students understand that making a mistake does not mean they are poor, but it is a good thing because they will now have the chance to correct it early enough. Encourage them always to be resilient and working towards their target goals. For example, tell them if you feel your brain is stretched it means they have studied and tried their best. All the students need is some morale and confidence boost, and their energy levels will be up.
