Teach Like a Pirate

The book “Teach Like a Pirate” is not only just a book but a collection of great ideas that increase student engagement, boost your creativity, and Transform your life as an educator. Focusing on part three, Building a Better Pirate, three ideas or concept are well elaborated to bring Cleary what teachers need to do to improve not only the student but also them as a whole

The Awkward Question is the first concept we are going to dive deep into. Most teachers are afraid to recognize that there are great and must aim for greatness. They feel sharing or acknowledging your greatness is being selfish and egocentric, but that may not be true; using this concept acknowledging am great contributes to school culture necessary to create the environment for greatness to flourish because I believe that my greatness in the classroom doesn’t negatively impact or inhibit anyone else’s opportunity to be great. The student will leave your classroom more-well rounded, full of self-confidence, and a positive person; to achieve, need to put extra effort and commitment to grow. Through this world become a better place because of my greatness.

Mediocrity Doesn’t Motivate the second concept we are going to look at. To ascend to the level of greatness, you have to be on fire with passion and enthusiasm. There is no fuel to ignite action; this creates a lukewarm classroom environment where kids push the clock, mostly behaving unpleasantly. We can agree that teaching is hard and requires a lot of effort and commitment; unless we find something big to care about, we may suffer from depression and eventually find life meaningless; dropping before reaching our destine may not be an option but a necessity. Acquire decision to pursue excellence as a teacher and as an individual is rewarding and fulfilling in the long run. Motivated by a mighty purpose makes it easy to get up in bed and, despite a long day, can still go home energized.

The Mighty Purpose is the third and last concept to embark on. The world we live in is full of negative vibe all around, voices telling us we are no better off. Those voices are distractions even to the best of the best. As a passionate teacher, the only rescuer is that the purpose should be too mighty to be dragged down by negativity. Another agenda has a high calling. Don’t jump in this teaching; allowing money to motivate your decision, high calling makes it easier to commit yourself to do whatever it takes to accomplish your life’s purpose. The purpose is recognized by yourself to stop looking for external validation because of the hardship and load of teaching you are going to barer alone.  Your great purpose helps shape the mind of the future generation, uplifting life, helping students fulfill their human potential, and influencing how students interact with the world to make it a better and safe place to live. Teacher impact can only be measured through the generation’s impact on the world.

In conclusion, looking at the three concepts, we can agree that teaching requires individual to take priorities of self-growth, unlearning irrelevant concept, and changing their perspective on how they view teaching because their knowledge transferred may have a great impact on the generations at large and way of living
