Social Problems
There are four elements that may be used when defining a social problem. This element include pressure, social conditions, collective actions as well as a set of values and norms. Taking this element into consideration is a building block towards defining social problems. A social condition that is known to pressure groups as posing threats to the current values and norms, which requires a collective form of action to rectify. In this section, I attempt to clarify on the social problem that affects, e as an individual. The social problem that affects me the most in the current times is the prevalence of domestic violence in many homes today.
This social limitation significantly ruins families as it contributes to the high rate of divorce cases in this generation. The case of domestic violence has dramatically been on the rise since the year 2010. Furthermore, the number of domestic violence that have occurred since then and 2014 have been double. Generally speaking, due to cases of domestic violence, many women have been left with no choice but to leave their homes and families and vacate somewhere else for the sake of safety. In some cases, the women vacate together with their children while in other cases children are seen running away from their homes in to the streets. The number of street children and street families have increased in Kenya as many families find the streets to be safer that their homes. The most cases of domestic violence cases occur between children and women. according to research sources up to 187,00 women and children have sorted for housing between the years 2010-2013 due to domestic violence.
Gender violence has really destroyed the lifestyles of women who belong to the lower economy. What is even more disturbing about this social problem is that there are laws in the country that are there to protect women and children against this. But, due to high rates of corruption experienced in the judicial systems the perpetrators of this acts are usually set free or given an unreasonable sentence. On their release they get out of jail start new families and the trend of abuse continues. If the laws would have been taken seriously and women not being viewed as marginalized, then there would have been fewer cases of domestic violence between our families. In some instances, victims of gender violence are usually left dead or seriously injured.
This leaves many children without mothers, brothers or sisters. It is so absurd that there are other victims who prefer to silently go through the assault just so they can keep the family united. Domestic violence is a serious social problem that needs both the government and the people interventions. If the issue is controlled effectively then there would be less cases of death or injured personals due to violence. Also the number of street children would go lower and the rate of unemployment reduced. Every citizen in the country has the right to be protected by the laws of the country, and therefore people why administer this act should be punished according to the law.
