Selection and Onboarding
Onboarding plan for Team Management
An onboarding program is a program that entails the process in which the employees that are new to the company get acquainted with their specific roles, their team, and the various aspects of the organization (Moulton, 2018). Efficient onboarding is essential in ensuring that the employees become a part of the organization and make a shift that is active towards contribution to the organization’s goals. This paper seeks to discuss the various activities involved in a one-day onboarding program for the orientation of the new employees in the organization.
Activities involved
Filling Forms and getting to know the other employees/ Clarification
Being the first day at work, the first onboarding activity essential is filling the relevant documents before the employees begin working (Fica, 2017). This activity will get done between 8, and 9 am before engaging in other activities. This activity will also entail introducing the employees to their coworkers and helping them understand the social and operational structure of the organization. It’s about setting the specific objectives and the expectations that the company expects of the employees. This will include product and process training and intranet basics. This is where the new employees will be able to get clarification on their specific team members and their duties and responsibilities in the organization, including the future goals of the organization.
Scheduling of in-person meetings and Connection
This is an important activity that is essential in the employees’ orientation on their first day at work. This is because it will involve direct interaction with the employee. They can be educated on the specific questions that they may have about the company before they officially begin performing their duties. This is an opportunity for the manager to know the employee better than they would have in conducting the interviews. The effectiveness of the onboarding program will be established by how effective the work of the employees is. This is where the information networks and the interpersonal relationships will get built, including relationships that are cross functional and social communities. The employer will build rapport with the employee and establish whether they are on the same page when it comes to working on achieving the organizational goals. The in-person meetings will also help the manager in understanding the expectations of the employee in terms of career development, among other aspects of the organization. The manager will be able to grasp an idea of how driven the employee is in meeting the organizational goals.
Cultural knowledge
This is where the employees get provided with knowledge of the norms of the organization. In this case, they will be able to understand the organizational culture and practices, including the informal and formal ones. This is where they will get to learn about inclusivity, the values, and the culture of diversity. Understanding the organization’s culture will help the employer understand what is right and what is wrong concerning what is culturally acceptable in the organization. The activity involved with this will be a social interaction with the older employees of the organization to help the new employees learn from them. During this interaction with the other employees, the new employee will also understand how they fit in the culture of the organization and the specific changes they will have to make to be part of the organization’s culture.
Complete Compliance training programs
This is where the employees get given information about the rules and the policies that govern the company’s well-being. This includes the guidelines on safety at work, the relationships between the employers and the employees, and the general rules that govern the conduct of the employees in the organization. The employees in this activity will interact with the organization’s managers with regard to the policies related to the terms of the contract, the federal regulations, and the intellectual property matters relating to the employment contract. It will address the general compliance to the rules that have been made to govern the functioning of the organization concerning their health, the environment, and safety while working in the organization (Grotans, n.d). The effectiveness of this compliance training will be determined by nature and rate at which the complaints get brought forward by the employees. In the compliance training, the employees will be able to air their concerns about specific policies that they may disagree with. The managers will also be able to consider the concerns of the employees and establish where adjustments can be made to achieve employee satisfaction for positive outcomes at work. It is critical that the needs of the employees are addressed for the organization to achieve success in their operations.
