Science
Science is a crucial element in contemporary societies that promotes understanding of the occurrences in the surroundings. Besides, this phenomenon encompasses searching and understanding the social and natural world by applying systematic methodologies that accommodate evidence. Moreover, my understanding of science and its description in chapter 5 are similar since they both support the fact that this element promotes a clear understanding of the environments and the happenings in such places using inductive methods. The above-mentioned approaches also support the idea that scientific techniques require the necessary instruments to get the findings. Therefore, my understanding of science resembles elaboration in chapter five of the coursebook.
Subjectivity is a critical aspect that identifies one’s level of preference for an item over another one. However, this main contributing factor to this element is the cultural background of the involved parties. Additionally, my application of diverse technologies is highly dependent on the subjectivity issue, although this factor does apply in every aspect of my life. For example, I believe the fluorescent tubes are the best light sources, while the round-shaped bulbs are of poor quality. As a result, I utilize the fluorescent wherever I go to settle. However, scientists cannot apply an objectivity approach to manufacture items since they cannot depend on individual tastes when producing such commodities. This aspect is because not every person prefers using fluorescent tubing and others desire the loud types. Additionally, the comprehension of objectivity has helped me realize that beliefs are not always true. Using scientific methods to prove certain factors that people assume provides the best solution for understanding the underlying elements. For example, understanding that fluorescent bulbs consume more power and hence being uneconomical compared to other kinds of lighting would promote proper decision making on the kind of resource to use.
