According to the say, it straight workbook the term teammates implies a group of persons working together under a common drive or objective. Placating or people-pleasing means that you make people stop getting emotional or angered due to something you did to them by offering something ion return. For instance, when someone is mad because you forgot to notify them about your whereabouts during the day, you may decide to take them to an out the following day to compensate yesterday. Furthermore, people-pleasing can be termed as the action of a person trying to sue the other from getting upset.
Most of the times we find ourselves placating not to lose our friends who can also be very tiresome and make someone look so desperate in life. Hence placating makes people misuse you just because they think you cannot do without them. There was this time in my life when I was in high school and fell in love with one of the most beautiful girls in the class. I was so attached to her such that I would never wish to lose her as I felt like all my life depended on her. It was on a normal day, and as we were hanging out in the school compound, one of the school mates came to us and disturbed my girl and said to her that she was wasting time with me because I was poor. We could never make it in the future with her, so it would be better if she chose him as he was somehow bossy and classic.
At first, I was furious, but my girlfriend did not react to it, but after some days, I noticed her attention was drifting from me to that guy. I tried to please her by buying her some nice foods and even taking her out for diners after evening classes, but she never intended to be with me again. With all my effort to try to please her, she never had time to listen to my apologies and requests, which ended me getting dumped and hurt. When placating this girl, I felt so helpless just because I was searching for love. I felt so uncomfortable when she was angry and could offer to do everything to see her smile. Thereby, this felt so tiring as I went to greater lengths to get accepted.
The phrase ‘say it straight’ means straightforward, honest and accurate. An example where someone said it straight to me is back after high school education, I had failed my exams and thus did not achieve the required grades to join college which made me so despite with life. Therefore, I started abusing drugs as I knew my life goals were all diminished and had nothing better other than to find peace in drugs. However, my parents said it straight to me that, that was not the end of life and I could do better than that if I went back to school and focused, I would achieve better, but if I continued with that lifestyle then I would end up in jail or get shot dead.
