Personal Statement
Most people look at basketball and only see an orange ball. For many people, the ball represents a toy or a sport that helps people release their emotions. On the other hand, I believe in the power of sports and personally represents the values I love more than anything. For me, basketball represents tears, passion, sweat, hard work, a sense of belonging, and, last but not least, sacrifice. The teams that basketballs offer is a family to many people who play the sport. Certain things interest me in the world, such as friendship, family, and basketball love. More than anything, basketball helps in shaping the lives of the people who play and enjoy sports. Through basketball, I have developed a keen and resilient inner urge to succeed and chase after my ambitions rather than remain scared of pursuing opportunities. Basketball is a competitive sport and therefore acknowledges competition and rewards the winners. This sport brought an open chance to try a new adventure. Therefore experiences and opportunities are not scary and do not bother me anymore. Basketball has equipped me with a sports mentality, which I have been able to apply in my academics and basketball.
Basketball signifies change and development, especially in my life. Initially, before I started enjoying basketball, I was an unresponsive and challenging child. I did not follow instructions or do anything I was tasked to do. I did not respect or listen to friends, family, or teachers. There was no explanation for this idea, nor was there a solution for my case. Then I joined basketball and found a new love. I enjoy the sport now, and it helped me master discipline on and off the court. Basketball also helped foster respect for authority in me. From that time to date, basketball has always been part of my life and will remain in that position my whole life. Doing something with enough passion can elevate a person’s mood, and basketball shows how additional effort can help bring out the best results in people. Basketball gives individuals the power to feel good about themselves and also the process of training and improvement in skills and abilities.
Many people in the world cannot make friends as quickly; therefore, basketball offers the fans and the players an opportunity to share an experience they both enjoy. The game, therefore, is a social activity. I have made many friends within the team through the sport and developed relationships with opposing team members. Through these experiences, I understood how teamwork is essential and how it benefits people. There is a bond that comes with playing, training, and fighting as a team. Playing in a group helps people meet, especially for the fans.
Basketball is the second most popular sport globally because of the level of engagement for the players and the fans and the way people relate to the sport. The game is full of energy and has been a source of entertainment and development of many communities, countries, and individual lives. The sport is inclusive and does not have instances of social vices such as racism. On the court and in the stadiums, basketball brings the true nature of humanity. Basketball fans are respectful of the game, and they admire the players in a way that shows the emotions connected to the game. Basketball overtime becomes a lifestyle for many people and has changed the lives of many people globally.
