Obesity
There is a health hazard in progress. Obesity is creeping in among children. It might be a problem through out the country but would like to talk about it in Cheney, where it hits mosts. When the pandemic came in, most children would not go to school and ended up staying in homes where they exercised sedentary lifestyles. The rate of consumptions increased. The physical activities among children decreased with the majority of the children spending their time sitting when studying online and playing computer games.
Parents, on the other side, slept on their duties by not guiding the children to undertake healthy lifestyles which could prevent the increase of obesity rates. We know the health hazards of being obese like high blood pressure, heart diseases and diabetes, among others. It is issued that need proper addressing so that children can live better lives. At the same time, the parents should take responsibility and ensure that their children are not at risk of health-related illnesses because of their parents’ laxity.
According to Global Pediatric Health, in the last three decades, the rate of obesity has doubled in children. It will be worse with more sedentary lifestyles, coronavirus dominance which limits children movement and engagement in physical activities; the obesity rates will increase, leading to unhealthy generation.
The mushrooming of fast-food restaurants also poses another danger. Healthy eating is now a myth to many with the majority of children consuming junk food resulting in obesity. We must look at the root of the problem by identifying the root cause of fast-food restaurants which sell their products at a lower price. The fast-food restaurants also are in every corner of the city. We cannot continue closing our eyes while our generations will likely face many health conditions if we do not address the issues now. It is high time parents become strict and provide healthy foods in the family setups. Children learn from what the parents do parents should set an example of the correct ways to address obesity.
To address the rising obesity cases, it will need community and individual corrective measure. First, we must adopt a healthy culture in the family unit. Exercising is important because it leads to the burning of body calories which accumulate and convert to fats which accelerates the obesity rates. Children must be taught that exercising is healthy. Having an active body helps in boosting the immune system. Once the immune system improves, the likelihood of obesity decreases. Parents should take their children to children friendly gyms and include them also in early mornings.
Second, parents should adopt healthy eating. Feeding children with junk food is not parental love but a recipe for disaster. Parents should learn to feed their families with healthy foods that do not have health hazards like bad fats. Teaching children to eat healthy food will ensure children are aware of their lifestyles and what they put in their mouths. Parents should replace their menus and let health food dominate like eating plenty of fruits, vegetables and fibre. The agreed eating time should also be established to ensure that the food taken is digested and used in metabolic processes. What I mean by that is at night, the dinner should be light and breakfast heavy because, at night, the energy required is less and more food will be converted to fats.
Avoid fast foods which offer junk foods. Obesity and junk food have a direct relationship. The more the consumption, the higher the risk of obesity. Sugary and processed food should be out of the menu. Parents need to ensure that their children are keen about their health conditions and committing to the right path.
Therefore, the journey towards a healthy community and specifically our children who hold the key to future generations should be taken care of to ensure the children live better lives.
