Case Study
St. Vincent Healthcare Facility in New York has made changes in the past six that may have affected the nursing attitudes by increasing tension. The healthcare facility has reduced the number of nurses in nurses emergency department and reducing the number of nurses in other wards. It is a phenomenon that has been caused by an increasing number of patients requiring emergency care because of the covid-19, which has caused a healthcare crisis for every healthcare facility in the United States. The number of nurses in other wards and departments has been made to change their working shift from eight hours to twelve hours, which has taken a toll on them, as increased working hours cause exhaustion. They can also complete their jobs because of reduced energy and limited time. Due to these problems, nurses are unable to work at the highest level, which affects work efficiency and affects patient satisfaction.
EBP Model
The chosen EBP model is the John Hopkins model, which will help analyze how to solve the nursing shortage challenges. In this regard, it is a powerful tool used in solving problems because it ensures the healthcare providers can make informed decisions. The model has three steps, known as PET, which refers to practice questions, evidence, and translation. The John Hopkins nursing model’s primary goal is to use the latest research findings to provide their incorporation into patient care. In this regard, there will be the use of the current studies carried on nursing shortages because of Covid-19, providing information on how to address the nursing shortage. The information obtained will be translated and to provide ways of dealing with the issues. A way of dealing with the nursing shortage in St. Vincent Healthcare facility includes motivating nurses through offering incentives, which will be essential in ensuring that they become motivated even though four hours have been added to their schedules.
