Nations Nationalism and Ideology
A community is described as a social and political unit linking individuals. Social ties among a group of people help learn the identities of individuals based on their connection. A community is based on the social, political and economic conditions surrounding these people. Resilience, on the other hand, is the ability to return to normal or recover quickly from difficulties. Modern slavery, environmental conservation and the struggle to survive are a significant concern to the community since it affects the social, political and economic aspects. Competition, war, control over resources are both political and economical, whereas factors such as modern slavery also contribute to the social sector.
Brazil’s intensification in the destruction of the rainforest and its dense interior has affected not only communities living in those areas but also workers in the deforestation sites. Natural activities, such as flooding or earthquakes, have increased the rate of disease spread. Environmental destruction can cause an economic disaster which motivates slavery—slave-produced charcoal to makes steel components, which makes a quarter of Brazil’s exports. Slave produced goods fetch a lot of profits since production costs are low. For example, Indians making computers and television receive low wages because slave labour food is cheap.
The Disposable People gives an overview of modern forms of slavery in Thailand, Brazil, India and Pakistani. A total of over 27 million people are victims of this modern-day slavery. It has three states, namely Chattel slavery (servitude by birth, sale or change of owner), Debt bondage and contract slavery. For example, In Japan, prostitutes are more likely to be Thais, Philippine, or European women. Japanese women can not be considered to be less vulnerable compared to Thai women. The reason behind this is because Thai women are available for shipping to Japan. ‘Powerful’ Thais have enslaved women for the economic disparities in the lucrative business.
Modern-day slaveholders have acquired ways to adapt to the new economy. They are aware of the level of poverty and lack in individuals which creates a good platform for their exploitation. Kelvin bale shows how modern-day slavery has bound lives together and how individuals in modern nations have contributed as consumers or investors. Enslavement continues to thrive since there are no restrictions from worldwide human rights organizations .the economic importance of servitude outweighs its abolishment.
Religion and race do not show the vulnerability of one to enslavement. In modern Pakistani, slavery is evident in the Brick-making parts of the country. Many brick-making slaves are Christians, and their slaveholders are Muslim. However, this does not show that all Christians in Pakistan are Christians. Slavery thrives well in extreme poverty. Hopelessness, despair and vulnerability are felt in enslaved individuals as evident in Siri, an enslaved child prostitute in a Thai brothel. Women have mostly been regarded as inferior by many communities and ethnic groups, making them more vulnerable to exploitation.
Slaveholders can buy political power and acceptance since the business accumulates lots of profits. In Brazil, Thailand, Pakistani and India local authorities are used to enforce slavery. Thailand, for example, has played no role in abolishing commercial sex trade and those breaking laws are not brought to book. If somebody took action, incomes of police officers would reduce significantly. Most countries are facing modern-day slavery, and they experience centralized violence residing in the hands of local authorities. Power gets transferred to local gangs where those with most firepower run business.results in widespread lawlessness, which proves futile efforts to end modern-day slavery.
Michael T. Klares, Rising Powers, Shrinking Planet, shows a greater concern in ethics, international relations and energy security. Carbon dioxide emissions have grown significantly contributing to global warming. Different energy sources have to be invented since the world largest source of energy is fossil fuels- the lead source of carbon dioxide. Although fuel reservoirs have reached their maximum output, new sources of energy have to be developed to cater for the growing demand in energy. The sources of this fuel have become economic powerhouses over the sale. Already powerful countries provide development loans to energy surplus countries. There are a power shift from fuel deficit countries to fuel surplus nations. Military ties of producing nations and those of deficient nations have been improved showing resilience.
Competition for available resources has to end and the countries should focus on renewable sources of energy such as wind and solar.. Countries such as china and United States should focus on developing better energy alternatives that reduce the pace of global warming. Competition for commodities such as food has gone up since
