Maya Angelou’s Quotes and Advice
Prejudice is generally associated with the damaging misconceptions and stereotypes meted upon a particular group of people. It is a burden that confuses the past, considering that we may not know individual acts’ motives. With prejudice, we may assume that people committed some acts due to their propensity to some form of behavior. It may not produce an exact version of the past and thus hinders objective perception of the past, which is necessary to learn valuable lessons from the past. Prejudice threatens the future in various ways. For instance, it fosters disunity, making it harder to achieve better results in the future. It threatens peaceful coexistence, respect, and inclusivity. Prejudice renders the present inaccessible in that it alienates people based on perceived misconceptions. It also hinders values such as love, unity, and respect, necessary for people’s significant interactions. It means that people deny themselves a myriad of experiences in the present day simply because of having prejudices against certain people.
Maya Angelou’s rule “turn struggles into triumphs” is relevant to my life in a profound manner. Struggles are always prevalent, regardless of the overall situation in life. It is thus crucial to learn how to deal with the various struggles that emerge in our lives. With the awareness that struggles are ever-present in our lives, it then becomes interesting to note that we can transform the struggles into opportunities to achieve progress, growth, and even some of our goals. Therefore we can then define some goals for any hard times that we go through and see the positive side of things. With this mindset, we can quickly transform problems into opportunities for solutions and hard times into valuable experience. Ultimately, we become better people and achieve more goals by transforming our struggles into triumphs.
