Mass Incarceration
Debrief Speech
Introduction
Mass incarceration is the nature of the punishment used in the United States of America by the commission of a felony and other offenses to create rehabilitation for offenders. Mass incarceration has been contributed by mandatory minimum sentencing, police practices, and harsher laws, which have been imposed in different states. The high crime rate within different states has been contributed by racial differences and other socioeconomic factors such as poverty, resulting in most young people being involved in criminal activities (Wildeman & Wang, 2017).
Purpose
Mass incarceration’s situation causes detrimental effects on individuals, such as exposure to infectious diseases and lack of support from the penal system since many people are imprisoned together. The mass incarceration gave me to fear as I was surprised by the mass imprisonment of people exposed to diseases and were not socially supported by the government. Improvement of public speaking skills is important for all speakers. To enhance my speaking skills, I will use the following strategies, which are critical and will help enhance the skills. Planning effectively, thinking positively, and engaging the audience is important in making skills more effective.

Body
Why mass incarceration is a problem to the community
The majority of Americans are victims of mass incarceration. The United States of America is the leading country with more mass incarceration cases, which results in an explosion in the prison population (Ribeiro, 2020). More than 100 adults are subjected to mass incarceration behind bars making the prison population increase.
Mass incarceration leads to ramifications in the community.
The ramification is a negative impact of mass incarceration where children tend to suffer if their parents are taken to prison. About 71.1 % of all children aged 12-14 years get support from the government since their parents have been put into prison. This interrupts family life (Ketchum, 2020).
Mass incarceration creates unemployment and poverty in the community.
Mass incarceration leads to unemployment and poverty in the community, mostly to African-American people who live in the United States of America. The high unemployment level increases criminal activities, with 70 % of unemployed African-American men having criminal records (Wildeman & Wang, 2017).
Reducing levels of incarceration may reduce mass incarceration.
The reduction of incarceration may be achieved by reducing the penalty for low-level and non-violent crimes such as drug possession. The reduction may also involve keeping the dangerous people in prison and releasing them ready to enter society.
The community needs to be educated on the reduction measures which need to be taken to reduce the causes of mass incarceration.
The community needs to build a good relationship and spread information about the benefits of reducing incarceration, such as increasing the level of job opportunities in the community (Sawyer & Wagner, 2019). There is also a reduction in criminal activities, which reduces the levels of poverty.
Conclusion
Mass incarceration has negative impacts on the community, such as increased poverty and increased crime. Reduction of mass incarceration may be achieved by reducing the penalty for low-level and non-violent crimes and only keeping the offenders who are a threat to society alone in prison and others released.
Review
There is a need to understand the impacts of mass incarceration and identifying the solutions to eliminate it in communities to create a safe environment.
Memorable closing statement
There is a need to know the benefits of reduced incarceration in keeping a safe community. People should live in a community with free liberty and freedom.
