Marcel Duchamp
Marcel Duchamp is considered one of the influential figures who promoted the concept of modern art. Duchamp was born into a family of artists; he practiced a number of professions and conceived an array of conflicting personas: conceptualist, artist and art dealer, craftsman, and playing chess. His main come through was, however, the readymade urinal object he acquired from a plumbing company and turned it into art which caused a lot of controversy including being rejected when he took it for an exhibition. Jeselit’s book provides a solid analysis of Duchamp’s work providing objective information the topic being researched. Joselit records an unswerving antagonism between the material world and many forms of inscription, measurement, and qualification by taking into justifying the recognized art pieces while emphasizing on his journey as an artist. Perplexing conservative accounts, he designates the readymade approach not just as a denial of art, but as a means of creating new forms of the modern art.
