Given the external environmental conditions presented by the state of Indian infrastructure, would you choose to open a new facility there? Why or why not?
Yes, I would still choose to open a new facility in India despite the underlying external environment conditions such as heavy road traffic and poor infrastructure. This is because every business venture has its threats, weaknesses, strengths, and opportunities, which must be balanced to increase the business’s bottom line. In the same way, I can take advantage of India’s cheap labor, which can compensate for a less fast shipping system.
How would you describe Massey’s current approach to its ethical and social responsibility?
The current approach of Massey Company violates ethical and social responsibility for-profit motives. Thus their approach is short-term sustainability. The management insists that the company has observed moral and social responsibility when the reality is that the company violates this responsibility. Continued public outcry will only bring down the company in the long-run.
Which approach to social responsibility would you recommend that Massey take in the future?
Massey should focus on maintaining its long-term sustainability rather than only increasing its bottom line. This includes taking the mantle of ensuring that ethical and social responsibilities are adhered to in the company. The company should first begin by accepting and owning the mistakes of ignoring its role in moral and social obligations. Rather than gaining much profit now and losing its position and market share as a company in the future, Massey should focus on ethical issues that will sustain the company further into the future.
In making the decision, how could you benefit from the various group decision-making techniques described in the chapter? Which might be most effective for the decision you face?
The group decision-making methods described are beneficial because they consider every leader’s decision to do with the company’s wellbeing. These techniques will give me a chance as the marketing manager to air out my views before the company’s management panels concerning the new marketing policy at the table. My decision on the warranty idea would be to put ethical responsibility before huge profits because the company would suffer more in the future when customers realize they have been cheated.
