Christian worldview of inherent value encourages perceiving humans beyond their physical state since humans have souls or spiritual too. Hence, as a steward of well-being, I recognize each person’s inherent worth, regardless of their physical health status. Placing the patient in the health-illness spectrum will enable me to assess the patient holistically and offer person-centered care. The model also fosters empathy and compassion emphasizing treating everyone with love as I love myself. Therefore, by integrating the health-illness continuum model into practice, I will address not only the physical state but also the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of health, contributing to comprehensive care that honors the individual’s community’s unique, value and dignity.

Current Health Status

I am in good mental and physical health currently, but sometimes experience stress and tiredness. Thus, I fall within the normal stage in the health-illness continuum. I follow healthy behaviors such as eating healthy meals and a balanced diet. I also exercise regularly. Therefore, my BMI is fine, I have adequate muscle strength, and healthy mentally. Eating healthy ensures the body has balanced nutrition. My healthy eating behaviors are also supported by cooking at home, based on a developed daily meal timetable. I also socialize with my friends to enhance my social well-being and strive to sleep at least 8 hours a day. Such sufficient rest has ensured I have enhanced cognitive function and overall well-being. However, I acknowledge that my health often changes across the health-illness spectrum. Sometimes, I experience stress and tiredness due to overworking.

Still there are things I need to improve on. Sometimes, I deviate from healthy behaviors because of my busy schedule, resulting in a missed exercise routine to sometimes a week. It sometimes makes it challenging to adhere to a healthy meal timetable. I can improve my self-care and overall wellness by incorporating relaxation techniques into daily routines to mitigate stress and enhance emotional resilience. I can also enhance my work-life balance to ensure I have sufficient time for self-care. Finally, I should practice regular health screenings and check-ups to facilitate early detection of any health issue.

Options and Resources

I have assessed options and resources to assist me toward wellness in health illness. I have an option of exercising in the house using simple and affordable gym equipment such as a pair of dumbbells. It will help me maintain a physical exercise routine by leveraging on the few minutes needed to drive to the gym. I also have an option of balancing work-life and create time for cooking discipline at home to ensuring I consistently eat healthy meals to prevent illness.

I can utilize virtual resources such as the emotional wellness toolkit by the National Institute of Health to adopt better stress management skills and promote mental health wellness. The toolkit offers various strategies for handling work-related stress. I can also utilize Spotify, whereby I can listen to podcasts, including audiobooks, to ensure I move toward intellectual wellness. Inspirational audio books can shape an individual’s perspective, behaviors, and discipline, which are necessary for achieving intellectual wellness.

In conclusion, understanding the health-illness continuum is crucial for ensuring a holistic health care. It ensures that a health provider perceives the patient beyond physical health, and considers all the factors influencing the individual health.
