Introduction

Innovations have continued to grow at an alarming rate; hence, it has engulfed numerous aspects of life, such as service delivery in rural areas. Several studies have considered that technology can be a valuable tool in rural settings with problems related to the lack of healthcare, education, and financial services. The core question underpinning this review is: Has technology enhanced service delivery within rural regions? This is of much interest since rural areas often face sundry problems and challenges, and technology can solve these problems. By dealing with this issue, one can speak about a more vivid understanding of the results and effects of technological tools in improving the quality of services and their availability for rural people.

Background and Justification

Distance, lack of infrastructure, and inadequate resources always make it very difficult for rural areas to access effective services. In a study conducted in 2021, the authors Cattaneo and others pointed out that about 3.4 billion people live in rural areas worldwide, and they experience poor access to quality services. Telemedicine, mobile banking, and e-learning platforms are some of the solutions technology has offered to close these gaps.

Study by Hage et al. (2013): The subject of this study examines the effectiveness of telemedicine as a tool for healthcare delivery in rural settings.
