Ferguson Effect Critical Review

Introduction

There are important police stations around the world to eradicate crime. The role of the police is seriously questioned due to race. Due to the Ferguson effect, racial influences have affected US security. Police racing is used as a basic element. Since Ferguson, police agencies have hired people from different ethnic backgrounds, which influences crime rates. Crime is stigmatized, especially for victims.

Understanding the diversity of crime rates is essential for disciplines that have a political impact on both the social and criminal justice systems. Michael Brown was shot dead by an unarmed black man living in Ferguson, Missouri. There were serious concerns about which police were hired for communications. Michael Brown’s shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, makes a difference and helps explain the negative effects of crime in public and private life. Police stations have begun to adopt more ethically.

By increasing ethnic police officers’ diversity, you can help crime and work in specific areas and communities. The agency organized by the police had to compromise for interaction with the police and the manipulation of crime. This is a link to show the effectiveness of diversity adoption in policing. Police need diversity, and similar policies and training are needed to help police officers learn how to handle the situation better. Ferguson has helped show issues that need to be addressed among police agencies for decades.

Theoretical assumptions

In the article titled “A Ferguson Effect, the Drug Epidemic, Both, and Neither? Explaining the 2015 and 2016 US Homicide Rises by Race and Ethnicity. Homicide Studies,”.  The increase in the number of murderers and ethnicity on the trails looks like a sharp rise. This is why two historic social phenomena are associated with the Ferguson shooting and opiate epidemic. Over the years, civilian police killings, civilian protests, fatal drug overdose, and structural damage have occurred. The Ferguson effect is what happened after a shooting involving an officer. Some say the murder rate has risen because police officers felt they were securitized with aggressive strategies in the “war with police officers.” The Ferguson effect is a reality, and law enforcement agencies are trying to find a way to fix the situation so that it never happens again. However, the Ferguson effect has led to exposure to opioid epidemics. The killings still escalated to police shootings. Opioids do not claim life. Use the Ferguson effect to show issues within the community and between law enforcement agencies.

In the Article Will more black cops’ matter? Officer race and police-involved homicides of Black citizens show the shooting of Michael Brown by a police officer. The shooting on that day sparked protests in Ferguson, Missouri, and sparked a national debate about African Americans’ treatment. There is speculation that police are involved in the killings of African Americans across the country. African-American officers will reduce the number of shots. Hiring more officers before public awareness by hiring more African-Americans, which is a political decision as needed, is one way, but there are other ways. The goal is to reduce the number of police killings, which can be done by hiring only officers. It is also necessary to end racial protection, reduce complaints, and know the costs, benefits, and trade-offs of more representatives of minority groups.

Similarities and differences

After police shot down the unarmed African-American Michael Brown, an officer-involved in Ferguson, Missouri, protested. After his death, there were 15 more cases of unarmed blacks being killed by police. According to Gaston, Cunningham, & Gillezeau (2019), prominent cases such as the Ferguson, Missouri case show to the entire population that unfair justice poses a serious problem to the rule of law (Gaston et al.,2019).  Famous incidents actually bring a different perspective, as they open the public’s eyes to the occurring problems. Ferguson’s shooting showed that there was a diversity issue among police officers. According to Nicoloson-Crotti (2017), Ferguson residents said a few days after the shoot: I want answers, I want justice in the community, I want diversity. Departments need to increase diversity by increasing the number of minority representatives in the security community.

According to Gaston, Cunningham & Gillezeau (2019), the employment of ethnically diverse police officers has reduced crime beyond perceived traits, and further increases in crime are the result of factors other than Ferguson (Gaston et al., 2019). Law enforcement agencies have developed a diversity policy for recruiting minority members. According to Nicoloson-Crotti et al. (2017), the need for more black representatives in the police was a prominent political solution proposed in Ferguson’s wake (Nicolson-Crotti et al. et al. (al., 2017). Ferguson has shed light on many issues, and police stations across the country have begun to change.

The Ferguson effect in law enforcement

The question is on Ferguson’s effect on the recruitment of minority police officers. Ferguson’s impact on police and the African-American community’s relationship is to add diversity to law enforcement. The Ferguson effect caused problems with the reliability of police agencies. Since the days of Ferguson, law enforcement agencies have struggled to work for fear of backlash. One of the decisions many departments have made is to hire more black officers. According to Nicholson-Crotty et al. (2017), there is a positive and significant relationship between the proportion of black officers and the fatal clash between police and black citizens in most parts of the United States. There is. This indicates that improvements are needed to resolve the issue (Nicholson-Crotty et al., 2017).

Employment is one way of helping, but it shows a crime reduction. The significant decrease indicates that the level of diversity is intentionally increasing. The Ferguson effect is serious and is due to shooting factors. The Ferguson effect and civil crimes have increased hostility to crime rates. The Ferguson effect was a major cause of numerous violent crimes. Law enforcement officials refuse to show how aggressive they are in the police, fearing scandals and criticism.

The Ferguson effect does not exist in how the media portrays it, as it does in crime statistics. The myth that police officers are currently delaying crime prevention services is not true because of suspected political interference with day-to-day police operations following Black Lives Matter’s protests. The Ferguson riots affected how police stations were deployed. Black Lives Matter officers and protesters only appear when white police officers shoot and kill black civilians. Research shows that the media makes sensational news about crime, including violence and race, which draws the public audience’s attention. Crime data also show that the increase in crime in poor areas over the last five years has not been linked to anti-police creation. The term “Ferguson effect” is rarely used in the media and is only associated with Ferguson police chief, FBI director Comey, and writer Heather McDonald to link the violent crime to the police response to possible criminal cases. I am. Moreover, the conspiracy to “disarmament the police” cannot be substantiated by physical evidence or testimony. Let’s start with recognizing that the police have launched a practical and quiet protest, mainly because African Americans have protested the killing of African American citizens by white police. Police stations across the country did not stop sending police officers to urban areas and refused to request services in urban areas. Directing change in the social media community has changed how to carry out daily activities in high-risk areas. The days when the only way to understand what happened between police officers and individuals was to read case reports are over. Police understand that they are constantly being monitored, as police cars have cameras, officer uniforms have cameras, and mobile phone cameras are installed in every home. Law enforcement officials understand that, depending on location, time of day, and nationality, establishing contact with an individual occurs in different ways when viewed through a camera lens. Police officers want to avoid complaints that occur when performing routine police operations, such as making quotes, stopping traffic for violations, and minor arrests that are not criminal offenses (Gonzales & Cochran, 2017). No one wants to be hit by the camera when they try to complete a task and wonder if their behavior is racist or immoral. Therefore, there is no “police dismissal” nationwide. There is self-maintenance of employment.

Conclusion

The Ferguson effect is real, and diversity needs to be considered. Law enforcement is a daunting task and has been in the limelight since Ferguson. Policy changes, requirement changes, and migration from proactive policies are just a few of the changes that need to be made. There were some effects. Public distrust of the police. Police interaction creates a hostile attitude. Citizens stopped reporting crimes they saw or experienced and put the law in their hands. Citizens are beginning to realize that police may not have the best intentions for their safety. The media inflates everything in every detail, and police are afraid of their people’s lives. Then, when they start to change, it becomes the political interest of the officials. Law enforcement agencies must work with the general public to create a friendly atmosphere. The diversity of people helps to create a comfortable working environment for police. By working together, helps curb criminal activity and provide the public with the security they need. The article also showed that the training of law enforcement chiefs needs to be improved.
