A famous saying goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” it is impossible to overlook sport’s role in establishing a healthy and productive lifestyle today. The World Health Organization approximates the prevalence of obesity worldwide to range from 5% to above 25% (1). This prevalence varies within countries, regions, and within sports and athlete oriented areas. The highest prevalence is reported among populations of developed countries. In the United States, the prevalence of overweight and obesity has risen to epidemic levels. Specifically, studies indicate that 39% of youth and adults are overweight in America (WHO 1). The development of Obesity and overweight is associated with inactivity and a sedentary lifestyle. Individuals should participate in sports to stay active, stay out of trouble, meet new people, make new friends, and stay healthy.

First, the alarming rise in lifestyle diseases, mental health conditions, and societal drug abuse and insecurities justify youths’ need to engage in sporting activities. Several researchers have associated the development of psychiatric disorders with inadequate exercise (Adetunji and Akindutire 32). Specifically, stress-related depression among youth is highly prevalent in inactive populations across the world. Mental health is an essential aspect of health that determines a person’s quality of life. Today psychologists attribute the rise in suicide cases among the youthful population to inadequate psychosocial support (Adetunji and Akindutire 32). Moreover, depression generally contributes to substance abuse, a phenomenon that predisposes individuals to drug-induced psychosis. Also, inactivity and inadequate exercise lead to the development of chronic lifestyle diseases. With the WHO approximation of obese youths in the United States alone to be 39%, it is impossible to overlook the urgent need for lifestyle intervention(1). Obesity generally lowers the capacity of the body’s immune system to fight illnesses. These immunocompromised individuals are at a greater risk of suffering from severe disease states or even death. Furthermore, obese individuals stand a higher chance of developing cardiovascular complications. Elaborately, increased fat deposition within the arterial blood vessels contributes to a general increase in blood flow’s total peripheral resistance. This resistance significantly contributes to the rise in blood pressure. Several researchers confirm that the chances of an individual suffering from a heart attack are highest among obese and overweight populations (Morrill and Chinn 354). Eventually, obesity, as a comorbid, increases the chances of developing lifestyle conditions and lowers life expectancy among people (Morrill and Chinn 356). Furthermore, inadequate uptake of sporting activities is associated with high crime rates and drug abuse. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs shows the representation of human needs at different levels of prioritization. Humans are generally social beings who require interaction and identity in society. Ineffective utilization of sporting infrastructure contributes to idleness among unemployed youth populations. These individuals often join drug abuse and criminal groups. Many youths inactive in the sports industry identify with groups associated with harmful vice in the community. This uptake of illegal activity has broadly contributed to the high societal crime rates and increased juvenile sentencing. I have highlighted the need for everyone to participate in at least one sport, indicating the benefits that sports provide to individuals.

Engaging in sporting activities addresses numerous psychological benefits. The initial merit of engaging in sport is that it helps build an individual’s self-esteem and confidence. Sports allow an individual to perform workouts that target undesired regions of fat accumulation. Intense physical activity leads to significant sweating, a phenomenon that opens up pores and helps excrete toxic body wastes. Besides, the trimming of unwanted fat during exercise helps realize a desirable body outline (Malm et al. 2). Essentially, achieving the desired body shape increases a person’s self-confidence and esteem. Effective mental health functioning also results from physical exercise and sports. According to Malm et al. (2), participation in sporting activities anxiety, depression, and stress-related psychiatric illnesses. Also, mental functioning achieves optimization during exercise. Contrary to many parents who associate sporting activities in school with academic underperformance, the ideal balance of both sports and academics provide a much better outcome. Also, Sports motivates individuals to achieve a better life. According to Malm et al. (1), sports and physical exercise have a desirable effect in achieving a better quality of life, prolonging age expectations, providing additional strength and conditioning, and individuals’ desirable mental health standards. Sport is organized depending on sex, age, and physical boundaries. However, coordinating several systematic physical exercises within a training team helps design sport. Physical training and exercise increase an individual’s capacity for tolerance during activities. During exercise, excessive unused calories are burned by the body preventing the accumulation of fat reserves. Also, participation in sport is associated with several benefits. Effective utilization of sporting infrastructure helps eliminate obesity and overweight, eventually promoting a healthy physiological lifestyle (Adetunji and Akindutire 32). Uptake of physical exercises during sports helps in training an individual’s BMI, thereby preventing obesity. Adequate research distinguishes the role of healthy body weight in enhancing a person’s immune capability. The realization of ideal body weight for one’s height helps maintain an average body mass index. Specifically, persons with normal body mass index are at a lower risk of suffering severe disease states and sudden death resulting from a heart attack. Finally, sports participation provides a platform to satisfy social and interaction needs. Students who uptake sports activities achieve a sense of belonging to a more responsible group. This respectful association helps keep them out of negative influence groups and associations that could lead them into criminal activity. Contrary to perspectives that equate sporting to injury and disability, it is essential to consider the positive aspects of sports and make a rational decision to join one. Furthermore, sports can be controlled and guided by rules that promote the safety of all participants. To briefly summarize what I have discussed above, sport is good for developing an individual’s psychological needs. Also, it provides several health benefits to individuals, including the development of self-esteem, self-confidence, assisting in controlling obesity attacks, and helping to prevent cardiovascular diseases like heart attack and heart failure.

I would encourage each individual to visualize the outcome scenarios of either joining sports or living a sedentary lifestyle. The consequences of not joining sport include poor health and psychological outcomes and loss of opportunity to learn critical life and educational skills. Inactivity has an impact in contributing to obesity. In the end, obese and overweight people develop diabetes and require assistance in daily living activities. On the other hand, participating in sport helps equip students with the skill of handling failure. Also, sport is critical in enabling efficiency during learning sessions. To briefly summarize the above points, I have made it clear that participating in sports helps avoid several health consequences, which might affect those who skip sporting activities, including having psychological problems, educational problems, and life skill problems. Sport impact individuals’ lives by adding values of patience and improving children performance in school work

Finally, we can explore a lot of things to change the lives of individuals’ involvement in sports. Some people may consider joining local teams or YMCA’s that they volunteer their time. Three hours every Saturday or Sunday can help change one’s life. This act can go as far as influencing others from joining several sports and becoming committed. Besides the time, one can also consider supporting upcoming teams with sports gears and money if they are in a position to buy raffle tickets from the teams to support them financially.
