Ethics of expediency.
Katz writes about Hitler’s applications of expediency to justify his actions morally. Katz argues that Hitler used the combination of both political expediency and technological expediency to develop his new moral order. According to Katz, Hitler’s vision was all about conquering of states all around Europe and creating several empires.
Katz argues that as a result of technology and science, Hitler was able to conquer several states in Europe. Hitler used technology and science as instruments of power to further his regime. He viewed conquering Europe, exterminating the Jews and turning Russia unto Germany’s colony as his a practical utility and a political need. Thus, Germany incorporated the use of science and technology as a powerful tool to carry out any program. This saw Germany stand out to be superior in terms of war and expeditions (Steven Katz, 11). According to Katz, Hitler’s morals is a clear reflection of the type of ethics he upheld. Eventually, technological expediency resulted in political expediency which led to an end in itself. Therefore, the holocaust was a clear realization of Hitler’s belief of efficacy in science and technology as the factual basis of ethics and politics.
