Effects of Violence In Medical Practice

Nurses also go through violence, both domestically and in their places of work k=just like anyone else. Some of them have previous experience of domestic and work-based violence, which they have managed to overcome. As such, they can help victims of domestic violence since they are aware of the kinds of approaches to take when handling these situations. However, these solutions can either be harmful or positive depending on the nurse handling a victim’s case and the kind of domestic violence they might have gone through when it comes to the handling of victims suffering from the same.

Nurses can explore their personal feelings and values, which they use to attend to domestic violence victims. From previous violence experience, nurses have the best possible ways of coming up with solutions for patients undergoing similar situations (Blais, 2015). They understand the victims’ personal feelings since they can compare them with their own. Hence, they provide better instrumental, psychological informational, and financial support required to help overcome such situations.

Previous violence experience helps nurses make the necessary collaboration and the required interdisciplinary techniques, which help them change disruptive behavior. They can understand the different situations patients suffer from domestic violence (Blais, 2015). The intensity of the violence makes them aware of the kind of collaboration they need to make or the kind or referrals they need to make so that at the end of the day, the patient gets the required he;p that they need.

Previous experiences of violence on nurses can negatively influence their judgment. First, inadequate solutions can be offered regarding the path the victim should take (Blais, 2015). Low coping strategies, such as giving the wrong advice, can result in severe consequences such as murder or destruction of marriages.
