Diversity programs are policies and set of instructions laid out by an organization, typically apart from the standard working requirements that seek to ease marginalized people’s life and operation, people with disabilities, youths, and women in the workplace. Diversity programs also help any organization that puts them to practice make maximum profits due to proper coordination and inclusivity in the workplace. At the end of my piece of work, my readers should be in a position to access, prepare, develop, implement and maintain diversity programs in any workplace or organization that they are in.

The major principle behind diversity programs is the principle that tends to satisfy different people’s egos in an organization to improve vigor in the workplace. Diversity also focuses on the inclusion of everybody in the workplace in the decision-making process. One of the major ways to implement diversity programs is by educating managers. When managers and top leadership are trained in different forums, they tend to try to put whatever they learned to notice the slightest change. This also works on how they view their junior employees and how they wield authority that positively influences the workplace.

Avoiding bias and unequal treatment of employees. In an organization, there are employees of different races, different gender. There are the disabled; there are people of color and even the young. A good manager should treat everybody in equal measures and even issue promotions on merit, rather than biasness and masculinity or gender. Treating people equally automatically rules out the chances of suspicion and hatred among the workers. Suspicion may arise when one employee is treated better than others, and he or she may be seen as a spy. A good manager ought to know this.

A good manager should acknowledge that different employees are different and that all have different talents. Employees should be assigned duties in areas that are most relevant and are in tandem with their field of expertise. This will give employees the sense and obligation to work hard because everyone is doing whatever they enjoy most and are good at.

Avoid personal decision making when you are the chief executive officer of an organization. In case there is an issue that requires quick decision making, constitute a panel that will help in this decision making. The panel you constitute should consist of at least a representation from all departments and groups of people in your workplace. This will assure and inspire confidence and a sense of being part of the organization. These rules out the thoughts of imperialism and authoritarian kind of leadership.

A leader should set a good example in the workplace; imagine an organization with a deputy chief executive officer who is a disabled lady. This is the perfect example of a leader who shows how diversity can be achieved in an organization. If in the same organization, there were other people with disabilities, they can almost be sure that apart from just normal duties, they can also be part of the leadership program of their organization.

Lastly, a good leader should understand even the cultural and religious diversity of his subjects. For example, if there is no work on Friday afternoon, a leader of an organization may allow the Muslim workers to go for their services in the mosques. A good leader should also throw a party once in a while as a form of appreciation and motivation. During the party, interactive sessions can proceed, and a good leader gets to know all his workers.
