During my summer holiday, I had the privilege of working in the airline sector, particularly American Airlines. I worked in the ticketing department, where I ensured that passengers who have purchased tickets either online or through our agencies received them on a good time to avoid delays and inconveniences. I was tasked with including keeping records of all tickets sold, communicating with the customers, and ensuring that the online ticketing system is up and running all the time. Airlines hire customer service representatives available via phone and online to answer any queries that customers may raise.
Value chain refers to an entity model that typically describes all activities involved in creating a product or service (Razak & Vattikoti, 2018). For entities that produce goods, a value chain encompasses key steps. They range from production to distribution alongside all activities that fall in between, including procurement of raw materials, marketing endeavors, and manufacturing activities. The prime purpose of the value chain is to enhance the production process’s efficiency to realize maximum value for minimized costs. Every entity incorporates two main techniques that apply to the business process. These encompass informational techniques and organizational approaches. In retrospect, the value chain incorporates the aforementioned there techniques. Every activity within an organization has to go through the value chain.
As I understand, some of the airline sector’s prime activities include operations, outbound logistics, and inbound logistics, service to the customer, and sales and marketing. Inbound logistics encompass receiving goods, storing goods, inventory control, and planning transportation details (Urban, Ploetner, & Hornung, 2018). When working with American airlines, I noticed that multiple companies come to play to succeed. These include food service companies, aircraft manufacturers, airports, domestic transportation services, fuel companies, labor unions, and aircraft leasing entities.
