Informing the general public on convicted sex offenders is a major step aimed at preventing and protecting themselves from potential sexual assaults. Conversations with the community should begin at a goal level, building support for incorporating the sex offenders. This will aid in building trust, making progress, and triggering successful outcomes.
Media plays an important role in changing people’s perceptions. In a preventative culture, effective and democratic media form an essential part of societies transiting towards peace and democracy. The media, thus, can assist in spreading information that is true to the community. They should avoid biased information and ensure the humanization of all the victims. A media focused on peace-building should employ the following strategies; conflict-sensitive and peace-oriented journalism, the media regulation aimed at preventing incitement of violence, and peace-promoting entertainment media. Media should advocate for the human rights of sex offenders since they are committed to ethical and moral standards rather than causing incitement to violence regarding the matter of sex offenders. The media should report on the matter and reflect on the community issue and help question the concept of living amongst sex offenders. They should avoid propaganda purposes and try to cover-ups that may curtail the sex offender’s freedom and right to information.
Community policing calls for philosophical and organizational changes in police work. The changes include reducing politics and isolation in police departments and officers and granting more autonomy and discretion to individual police officers. It presents ethical challenges in reducing the political and social isolation may increase the threat and risk of corruption and favoritism. Higher autonomy of the police officers raises the risk of the officers becoming ineffective in their departmental controls. However, certain steps can be taken to overcome the above ethical challenges.
SARA model is a commonly used problem –solving methods; it includes the following;
- Scanning-it recognizes the recurring issues and their effects in a community. I would prioritize the issue and develop goals aimed at resolving the issues of a sex offense.
- Analysis- I would collect data regarding sex offenses and identify the causes and entailments of an issue. I would define the current response to the issue and the scope of the issue’s resources, and an approximate reason for its occurrence.
- Response- this step would help me use the research I got from the analysis step to brainstorming the ideas for intervention, selecting the intervention options, and then implementing the proposed changes.
- Assessment-it is the final SARA process, requiring one to evaluate the success of their implemented plan and find data regarding its outcomes. At this step, I would determine whether my initial targets were met and better ensure continuous success.
- Criminals involved in facilitating juvenile prostitution are confirmed to be using online resources. Technology also provides an efficient means of reaching obscure target groups.
Technology plays a major role in informing the community about real-time events. Law enforcement agents give warnings and share real-time information for protecting the public during emergencies.
The eighth amendment is against the federal governments imposing powerful actions on criminal defendants, either as a price for getting a pretrial release or as a punishment for crime after conviction. The amendment is against the introduction of harsh penalties, nor will excessive fines be enforced; cruel and harsh reprimands should not be exacted.
