Criminology
Criminology is an aspect that has regained strength for the last few years, and it remains relevant today even though the atmosphere has greatly changed since the 1960s. With the advancement in the digital age, money remains important on whether someone can survive in this capitalist economy. Issues such as race, gender, and class are important when addressing critical criminology. These factors are explained individually, even though they are related to each other. Class, gender and race played an important part in the formation of criminal justice systems. The issue of the class stands out to be an important feature in these books whenever a crime is mentioned. Due to perceived social and economic inequalities and policing strategies, most African Americans living in cities see law enforcement agencies oppressive instead of protective. African Americans are still having the residue effect experienced during the early twentieth century; this is mainly reflected by the view African Americans have towards governmental authorities. The civil rights protests experienced during the twentieth century led to the use of excessive force by police toward African Americans. This seems to be inexistence still even today. Most African Americans used to work as Slaves. Thus they were not in good economic levels. Those that had money during the 20th century was responsible for making and amending laws.
The race has been another issue as far as criminology is concerned. There is a privileged view of life in Americans, which does not allow the people of colour to thrive. Moreover, African Americans are considered as criminals compared to other races. Polices use a lot of force towards communities living in urban cities. Research has proved that police use a lot of force on people of colour compared to other ethnicities. Research has also shown that unarmed black men get to be killed at a higher rate compared to other ethnicities. Black men are considered to be criminals compared to their female counterparts.
