Comprehension reading is the process of understanding and interpreting reading material by decoding, connecting with what one already knows, and critically thinking of what one reads. The three aspects allow us to internalize the material, reflect on the reading material, and elaborate on our ideas by reflecting on what we already know.
One of the most significant reading challenges is understanding new concepts and vocabulary, making the content challenging. Once the material gets difficult, my focus is lost, leading to total diversion from the reading. The diversion can lead to a total dismissal of reading and focus on a different activity and procrastinating the whole reading.
My favorite genre is mystery because of the suspense involved, which raises my curiosity to know what happens. Mystery novels open up my imagination to different possible outcomes of a single act that might seem irrelevant but crucial in creating the book’s theme. The suspense intrigues me since it tells a story that can happen in real life without understanding how to solve the mysteries, but a clue is always around the corner.
Annotate is extra information about a discussion or topic to offer an understanding of a particular point. Paraphrasing is an act of reading a particular text and writing the text’s ideas in your own words without distorting the original message or idea, while summarizing is a writing tool used to identify the main ideas from a text and narrowing them down into brief details that can be easily understood. Paraphrasing is different from summarizing from the fact that it’s writing an original idea into your words while summarizing the main idea is hidden and requires elaborating and minimizing irrelevant information.
