Walmart and amazon.com are two competitive online and retail marketing giants that offer consumers a wide range of products at competitive prices. On their websites, several features are similar. For instance, both sites provide home delivery programs where customers get products delivered at their doorsteps. Although both sites are considered to provide customers with cheaper plans, they are starting to target wealthier clients by teaming up with established luxury brands like the Nike and Lord & Taylor. However, there are notable differences between the two websites. For example, Walmart does not require a membership fee for its members whereas amazon requires a membership fee from its members. Premium customers on amazon.com get free shipping, but Walmart only needs the shoppers to make shopping worth more than $ 35 so that they can have their products shipped.

Furthermore, amazon.com offers more than 250 million products which are staggering compared to Walmart’s 4 million products (Bhattacharyya, 2018)

Walmart and Amazon are entangled in a war as each retailer seeks to be a dominant force, especially in the e-market. Currently, Amazon is the dominant force when it comes to e-shopping. It offers customers from 180 countries with more than 250 million products to choose. However, Walmart has been experiencing a steady increase in customers on its online platform. It is a result of the company’s addition of the ‘pick at a location’ approach which offers the customers control over products unlike ordering and waiting for deliveries only to get products they don’t want. This model allows customers to purchase products online but get them in automated retail supermarkets. This approach puts to use Walmart’s numerous outlets that are located all over the world. Developing cutting edge services which improve the convenience of the shopping experience will help Walmart establish itself as the dominant force in online shopping. However, they can fail to achieve this goal if the range of products they offer is low compared to Amazon. Walmart should strive to make its online market a one-stop shop where all products are found (Bhattacharyya, 2018)

Walmart.com provides a variety of shopping aids to its customers. Shopping aids help the customer to find product information easily; shipping offers among many other things. The most important is the search option provided on the website. It allows users to navigate through the many products by simply keying specific items you are looking.

Furthermore, the website has other features like feedback, return policy, help center, gift cards, and coupons all which aim to make shopping easy. Amazon.com on the hand has some features similar to Walmart’s such as the search option. However, it also has different features that help ease shopping. For instance, offers one month free trial for free shipping without minimum purchases required. It also has a student account that offers products likely to be used by students. Walmart on the hand offers room style match a feature aimed at helping design their dorms together with their roommates (Jooste, 2018)

Walmart offers a wide range of services on its online platform. These services are aimed at increasing customer satisfaction and attract more customers. Some of these services include money services where customers get a wide range of financial services like sending and receiving money. Moreover, Walmart also offers product services like furniture assembly aimed at keeping the customer satisfied. Additionally, the retailer provides its customer’s health services where clients can get medical services like immunizations and pharmaceutical services. Walmart offers other services which include pet services, business services, auto services all aimed at keeping the customer coming back to the online platform.

Streaming services have exploded in the last couple of years offering consumers more choices and an alternative to pay TV. Various companies offer different movie services each coming up with new ideas to stamp their authority. Walmart through Vudu, a subsidiary company they acquired, offers streaming services aiming at giving customers low-cost streaming services that will compete with big names like Netflix. This service faces a lot of competition from other tech companies trying to get into the movie business. For instance, Apple is planning to launch Apple TV which will offer subscription such channels such as HBO and Starz. Other companies like Amazon also have a piece of the cake by introducing competitive products targeting different markets.
