Commitment and resilience
The leader that I find inspirational is Steve paul Jobs as he was naturally a leader because of his commitment and resilience, especially in his company. Since he was young, Steve went through a lot of challenges since he was an adopted child. His parents gave him out for adoption because his biological mother and father had religious differences as his father was a Muslim and his mother, a devoted Catholic Christian. Paul and Clara Jobs adopted Steve, and they used to treat him in a special way as they could give out their resources and time to invest in whatever Steve needed. I believe Steve’s interest and passion developed as he was studying in Hewlett Packard as he met one of the technical gurus who by then was trying to come up with a small computer. They developed a strong bond, and afterwards, they started a computer company called Apple.
Due to their commitment to inventing the computer, they had a shortage of funds, and they decided to sell Job’s Volkswagen minibus and Wozniak’s calculator. Then, they came up with Apple I. It is at this point; I believe Jobs and Wozniak became the pioneers of effective computers as they transformed the telecommunication industry as this machine was user friendly,
Steve was keen to detail as well as perfectionist, because of his personality, he had little tolerance to his employees who made errors as he could give them lectures or even fire them when the mistake was extreme. I believe it is because of his personality that made employees develop fear and work their best to satisfy the needs of their employer hence the company’s reputation. He also inspired his employees with strong desires for clear vision, hard work, commitment and passion. This is a clear indication that Steve wanted to leave an impact to his employees as well to ensure that the customers well satisfied. I can conclude that Steve wasn’t in the industry for money purposes but quality products and to build something authentic and great for his customers. I believe as a leader or who are aspiring to be leaders in organizations. It is very vital to remain as close as possible with your company by engaging and inspiring the employees and be present.
His nature of motivating himself, people around him and the world at large always amazed me. He believed that everything is doable and possible. I assume he used to convince himself and those around him that everything is possible as long as an individual is persistent, charismatic, determined, hardworking and cheerful. Steve was a master of dreaming big, and this influenced those who were around him.
Steve Jobs was a leader in that when still was the CEO of Apple company; he used direct efforts of others through structures and tasks. His employers were meant to work their best and also as a leader, he led by example. He used to tell his employers to love what they do or else you’ll end up giving up and live a miserable life. Through this inspiration, I believe his team were convinced and dedicated to doing as their leader. This created a common culture, and the employees were so dedicated to achieving one goal. As a leader, it is good to ensure you make the employees know about the company’s vision and mission, and this will create morale and empower the employees as well as other companies. Also, he gave his employees extrinsic rewards in the form of promotions and pay rise. Also, the apple products were sold to the employees at a discounted price. This made employees productivity rise at a high level.
Jobs believed that creativity is just simple as it involves connecting things. I believe he tried to come up with different ideas to create something constructive. He called creativity and obvious thing because it is through experimenting that an individual explores. I find this inspiring as everybody can embrace this act of creativity and be a hero of himself or herself. An example of Steve’s creativity comes in when he tried to invent the Apple brand, and he went forward to come up with iPhone, iBook and iMac. These brands were super meticulous. Now and then Steve encouraged people that every innovative idea has a problem and its possible to find a solution.
I believe there isn’t exceptional of who to face the challenge and who not. Every challenge is a breakthrough to our goals as steve was trying to figure out about his ideas when redesigning Apple, by then the tech was very ugly, unattractive and bulky. It is through Jobs creativity and resilience that he came up with the idea of a computer and made it better and different. He solved the consumer’s needs and changed the whole telecommunication industry.
When Apple III was released to the market, it had many issues since its motherboard could get hot faster, Steve noted the problem, and he decided to redesign the brand and resold it to the market. Steve advocates the importance of accepting mistakes and then improve them because mistakes are part of learning. Also, Steve learned to embrace the culture of
perfection and to share ideas with his cofounder to avoid embarrassments of giving imperfect work.
Steve elaborates well qualities of a leader, though some people who possess some leadership traits are born with them while others learn about them. Some of the key leadership traits Steve possessed are; independent thinking, perfectionism, intelligence, confidence and creativity. I see Steve as being confident when he took over Apple company, in his mind, he knew the potentiality of the company, and he believed in himself. He ignored all negativity, and he holds the company’s vision.
Steve is also remarkable in inventing computers that were used by the whole family. This made it easy for the families because of its cool features and its simplicity to use.
Due to Steve’s innovative things, his love for his company and his willingness to think outside the box, we have learnt a lot of incredible things from him. His profound teachings on technology and how to handle challenges have largely impacted us. Also, impossible thoughts are possible only if an individual is willing to explore and be consistent.
