Columbia Physical Therapy Program and DPT Goals
My rehabilitation’s success relies on the outcomes I enlist as I strive to accomplish them after the completion of the program. The extent of the attainability of these targets is on the functional aspects of the goals. As a short-term prospect, I aim to assess my career’s progress as I build on the physical therapy discipline experience. The fundamental purpose of opting for Columbia’s Physical Therapy Program is growth as I seek to advance my knowledge, ability, and social prowess in the field. I set a one-year window of evaluation based on performance results and benchmarking across the experienced people. The projections I hope to meet within one year of the program are acquiring a strong knowledge base that requires that I fit in with peers that help settle in and ease into a routine where I can work through personal situations and professional issues. I aim at finding a “work family” within the year as it makes it easier to conduct matters.
Columbia’s Physical Therapy Program suits my long-term goals as I prospect that the location would do my post-graduate life. The diversity in programs in the university presents a dynamic environment where career growth and thriving hold possibility. I would fancy living around the university’s location after completing the program since the region has ample opportunities for acquiring a physical therapy job. The next few years, I believe, will bind my career growth and happiness around the university. I want to become a certified specialist in the next five years of the program and eventually become an instructor. The action plan I should complete is documentation of practice hours in the program. I will reflect on various learning styles that should guide my teaching style, where my patients can benefit most from therapy. Columbia’s Physical Therapy Program is compatible with my career needs as the emphasis on patient care, community, and professionalism is one I resonate with. There is a consistent tendency of students practicing patient-centered care with continued participation in service and outreach to the community. The program provides mentoring and support for the students, which is essential for growth in expertise.
Having been through a lot of challenges in my undergraduate study and being able to survive in all is something I would like the admission committee to know. Despite the up and downs in my undergraduate, I managed to complete my studies. The challenges I experienced in my academic journey have prepared me to become a better person, even in the working field. Most give up and fail to perform well in the field due to pressure from their bosses and work demands. However, with me, I was very resilient and self-adjusting, something that is vital in the work field. Consequently, I would like my admission committee to note my special abilities while on campus. I was able to form an association that collectively helped the African student come together to handle their common challenges. Besides, I mentored the dancer’s group and took the club to a higher level, something which, when applied to the work field, can help the clients and improve their wellness. Subsequently, I was able to successfully take care of my sister, who had gotten into an accident. The opportunity has exposed me to the physical needs of the clients and what to expect, thus being able to handle clients well and enhance their well being.
