Cognitive revolution is the psychological period in which behaviourism and psychoanalysis approaches of psychology were replaced. According to Pinker, the significance of the cognitive revolution is that it helped to bridge that existed between the physical world and the world full of concepts and ideas. Through the cognitive revolution, these two worlds were unified through the theory of mental life explained through computation and feedback.
Through cognitivism, information process can be explained. Information processing is the theory used in psychology which identifies internal processes in mind. In contrast, cognitivist is focused on the mental processes that dictate the behaviors of the individuals. The accurate theory is the cognitive psychological theory. This theory determines the behavior through mental processes. Cognition theory is based on working memory that, according to Peter, helps to retrieve long time memory to help in the achievement of life goal. The behaviors are determined through the accuracy of information processing.
Schemata changes from time to time based on life experiences and cognitive development. Life has presented various events of life that have continued to change the self-knowledge and hence changes of the schemata.
The suggestions of Dr Boyd support the issue of learning through long term memory. As mentioned in the essay, cognition is mental learning that can be achieved through long term memory, and the video has supported this by Boyd. According to Dr Boyd, brain damage affects then functional, chemical and structural parts of the brain. These parts are responsible for the memory of a person, and once they are affected, the long term and short term memory of an individual is affected.
