Central Thesis

According to this article, the author argues that conservative politics is absent from the reactionary theory’s new field. This argument is brought out in the report that lack of reactionary has led to a decline in a given field and overlooking political reactions. International relations give less concern to racialism and cultural background.

Political Reaction

Reactionary refer to past politics compared to the current politics and tries to restore the past. When they compare between the two periods, they find that the past was much better in politics. Right decisions were made by those involved for the better of the common man. Some immoral were discouraged, which is a significant problem today. Some radicals are now involved in slavery, corruption, and social violence. The presence of reactionary would not happen since they would emphasize the matters. Reactionaries were concern with the human condition and do away with things that destroy the culture, and blame those bringing the change. For instance, Nazis were against the Jews for destroying the culture that was once in Europe (MacKay & LaRoche 2018).

Reactionary International Relations

In this, institutions think of a brighter future that differs from the past. Some react against the ongoing changes that affect their traditions in society. The first English school theorist claimed that the past was better since their socialization led to many societal changes. Some of the changes favor society, while others had a negative impact on society.  This brings the difference between first, second, and third generation. Furthermore, rising states are accounted for risky in comparison with declining power. There is an increase in disorders and chaos as a result of complications by the modern world.

A brief history of political reaction

Aggressive transformation in the world has been a great threat to society due to high technology and improvement in weapon making. Reactionaries, therefore, fight against technology. They find reversions that are un-compromised and radicals of the myth lowered by modernization (MacKay & LaRoche 2018). They defend society’s tradition by pausing the modernization that would do away with their culture and decline of their institutions. The radical political reactionaries agree with modern premises, but they also have a hint of opposing it.

Reactionary World Politics

There are restructuring and revisionism actions that display the role of reactionaries historically. The reactionary aims to restore the moral superiority that existed, believing that the pre-modern military was better than the modern (MacKay & LaRoche 2018). They could also restore the past through institutional building. The institution acted as the link to the past political orders. For instance, the Nazi in German was in the great aim of restoring the culture that they had before modernization. To be successful, they had to use the technology and the set institutions (MacKay & LaRoche 2018). They intended to obtain hierarchy in their state and did away with the Jews that impacted their culture.

Discussion Questions

  1. This article discusses the impact of technological advancement on culture only. What kind of development would be if the states would emphasize on technology? Further studies need to be carried out to determine the impacts of technological advancements.
  2. Currently, there is moral decay in society and crimes due to technological advancements. Could this be if they could not oppose the culture they had?
