Emotions and ego Emotions and ego play a significant role in decision-making and critical thinking, whereby the elements contribute to establishing guidance during critical thinking. Ego affects critical thinking through altering of perspectives from selfish gains. Attaining negative human traits in criticizing and judging others are some of the aspects of decision-making during the necessary thinking process (Yam & et al., 2014). Judgment becomes altered, whereas decisions are made from a biased perspective, undermining the accurate judgment’s implementation. The ego prevents one from hearing critically, affecting through undermining the efforts and necessary feedback from others, thus making one overestimate oneself’s skills and worth and underestimate skills and actions needed in attaining goals (Yam & et al., 2014). In return, critical thinking becomes altered with reasonable opinions and perspectives towards a subject in being limited from practical manifestation. MInimizing of the negative aspects of ego and emotions can be attained by valuing people since the case results in humbling an individual, thus respecting every individual. the health effects of e-cigarette/vaping among students Introduction Our topic focuses on assessing the health effects of e-cigarette/vaping among students. Tobacco remains widely used and consumed in different ways, mainly through cigarette smoking and smokeless tobacco. However, four common traits characterize tobacco use regardless of the way people are using it. They include addiction associated with nicotine, which is behind most tobacco health hazards, individual variation in tobacco susceptibility, time-lag effects, and dose-response relationship. The United States Department of Health has issued an advisory on vaping issues. According to 2018 National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS), statistics shows that use of e-cigarette or vaping among high and middle school students increased with an alarming rate, primarily between 2017 and 2018, with more than 3.6 million students using it in 2018 (Cullen et al., 2018). The health department recommends well-coordinated local, state, and national programs to prevent and reduce tobacco use by youths (Cullen et al., 2018). Intervention Strategy The intervention strategy is educating youths about the health dangers of tobacco use, including e-cigarettes. Community-based educational programs will help raise awareness…
In 2009, Michael Neuwirth, the senior director of public relations, questioned the impact of integrating Dannon’s deeply-ingrained and long-standing CSR, which was not a stand-alone focus area into the company’s overall mission of “bringing health through food to as many people as possible” (Marquis et al., 2011, p. 1). In other words, the CSR marketing strategy focused on leveraging the Danone brand’s halo effect among consumers. The product strategy focused on communicating Dannon’s proactive “Activia” brand as a nutrition-and health-focused yoghurt. Integrating CSR marketing and product-line strategies created significant internal and external challenges. The obvious issue in this case, as proposed by Michal Neuwirth was how the company’s long-standing, deeply ingrained CSR efforts, which focused on three areas of “People,” “Nature,” and Nutrition and Health,” helped in promoting revenue and sales growth and aligned with marketing strategies. The case study shows that Dannon should not have prioritized advertising CSR activities, and efforts did not focus on marketing strategic plans and led to internal management and organizational culture clash. According to Marquis et al. (2011), Dannon’s CSR mission was highly internally…
Natural language processing Question 1 Natural language processing is a branch of computer science, linguistics, and artificial intelligence involved in the interaction between computers and human language. However, it experiences specific challenges such as natural language understanding, natural-language generation, and speech recognition. Such challenges have made it difficult for natural languages to be incorporated into interface designs. Several solutions can be implemented to curb these issues, such as artificial intelligence, statistical & Qualitative Data Analysis Software and natural language processing, and text analytics. Artificial intelligence enables interface designs to function like humans. It provides an opportunity for the interface to adapt and learn from experiences and adjust to new inputs and improve on task performance. AI will be significant in solving issues such as speech separation. AI will enable the machine to learn and identify different voices. It is applied in customer service areas where the NLP can distinguish other voices and answer separately. Implementation of a statistical and quantitative data analysis software will also help in data visualization and data visualization. With recent developments made on the software, SAS…
Ruiru Feeds Ltd often concentrated on their operations without creating relationships with other similar business partners that operate on a similar scale with the enterprise (Kamunge et al., 2014). They have found themselves at a disadvantage as to managing their relationships with suppliers since their suppliers are bigger businesses. Hence, the enterprise doesn’t have the scale to create leverage (Nyambura, 2017). This leads to creating bottlenecks in the workflow and thus affecting the operations and financial performance of the enterprise (Nanjekho, 2014). Many studies have recently been undertaken around SMEs’ financial performance (Agyemang & Ansong, 2017; Ainin et al., 2015; Wakaba, 2014), and despite the studies, none has been able to focus on SCM and financial performance of SMEs, thus presenting a research gap. Most of the studies have been done on larger firms (Ağan et al., 2016; Banker et al., 2014; Laari et al., 2016) and definitely, it is also inappropriate to compare findings of the literature on larger firms to smaller firms since there are several key differences between the two (Storey et al., 2016). Therefore, the purpose…
Leadership and performance management Leadership and performance management go hand in hand. There are many ways of defining leadership. In simple terms, leadership entails getting things done using the available resources and organizing the human resource to achieve the set goals (Shein &Shein, 2016). Leadership structure differs between different organizations based on industry, employees’ characteristics, and the individual leaders’ traits. Leaders work with the people as they combine resources and skills to achieve their organizations’ optimum benefits. Performance management can be described as all the efforts to improve employee performance resulting in higher company performance. Performance management is leadership’s responsibility. The management tools employed by leaders establish the link between leadership and performance management. These tools create a healthy working environment, cultivate good relationships between employees and leaders, and motivate employees to work more efficiently, thus improving performance. One of the critical links here is effective communication. In simple terms, effective communication can be described as passing the right message through the right channels and in the right form (Williams & Galden, 2015). For leaders…
The twentieth century saw the civil rights movement emerge as a response to unfulfilled promises and also the experience faced by black soldiers during the second world war. The African Americans fought in a separated military while being told about liberty, justice and equality. After the fighting ended, the African American veterans returned home, determined to fight for the rights of full citizenship. The civil rights formed by the veterans came up with different strategies which included legal action, non-violent civil disobedience and black power. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People initiated lawsuits in the supreme court challenging the segregation of black in the society. The ruling held that the separate facilities were inherently unequal and therefore declared segregation in public education to be unconstitutional. The authorities in the south refused to implement the court orders to desegregate, and now civil rights groups turned to non-violent civil disobedience, Martin Luther King JR emerged as the leader of this movement. This was the first such direct mass action of the contemporary civil rights movement and provided further efforts…
