Being born and brought up in a Muslim family,
Being born and brought up in a Muslim family, my family executed a high degree of differentiation and integration within my siblings and I. Reflecting on the integration, my family always spent time together, ensuring harmony within the family premises. And even when we interact with others outside the family boundaries. The harmony was feasible due to our supportive parents. Since they ensured consistent values that made it feasible to have little disagreement within the family. Even if conflict did erupt, we were always tough to understand each other. To facilitate conflict mitigation since we emulated our parents’ techniques of solving conflict.
Second, our parents supported our interests and amplitudes. Our parents always recognized our strengths, ability, and talents and offered significant support to facilitate the attributes’ flourish. Therefore, materials and emotional support were offered. Since I liked painting, the painting materials were always available for painting practices. Which promoted the painting skills I possess today. Also, since I was interested in cooking, my mother could always provide different recipes and ingredients for the preparation of various meals. Which led to the growth of cooking skills. My father always assessed our progress in various fields after the job and ensured everyone notified him of the exhausted materials for learning, including school reading resources.
Third, as we grew up, we were taught behavioral boundaries and core values. Therefore, our parents ensured we have comprehensive information concerning our culture, religion, and moral values. Every time someone was caught in an offense, my parents never denied that their children had not committed the offense; instead, we were made responsible for the actions (Routledge, 2008). Also, they ensured we are taught the core life values through Muslim religious scriptures to promote ethical values while interacting with other individuals outside the family boundaries. The teaching also facilitated behavior boundaries on how to behave in various social groups, including old and young. Forth, our parents supported our failures in the premises of talent and abilities. By ensuring the expectations corresponded to the support to realize success.
Reflecting on differentiation within our family. Our parents ensured we were confident all the time by emphasizing the benefits of being our self through, providing some basics of coping with challenging circumstances. Our parents always reminded us that challenge is part of growth. And in comfort, there is no progress or development. Therefore, one thing that determines success is overcoming the challenges and never giving up in life. As we practiced these principles, we gained substantial skills. That promoted our confidence when dealing with life challenges. Also, our mental health was promoted since we developed the skills required to deal with challenges.
Second, parents inspired as on the benefits of aspiring higher achievement levels. The parents ensure everyone has the urge to progress to the next level and not be confined by the comfort of the current level. But, they assured that severe challenges accompany achievement; therefore, one should not be discouraged by the difficulties. Instead, we should learn from the difficulties to strive for higher levels. The approach promoted our creativity in exploring new interests and opportunities in life.
Third, we were always encouraged to achieve higher than our parents. Information was always provided on some of the creativity modeling that we could incorporate in our lives to realize higher achievements, including ensuring intensive concentration on our daily tasks. Since I am a mother to three young children, I always apply the integration and differentiation skills through imparting the same information, strategies, and skills to my children to facilitate their betterment in life and sustainability of the family skills.
