- Visual arts
These are forms of art that are created for visual perceptions.They include painting,drawing,sculpture,architecture,graphic,printmaking,photography,ceramics,film making and video.
Painting is an important form of visual art. It involves putting colours on surfaces.
Mixing of colours using different brushes is an expression of ideas. Painting is an old form of
visual art. In the olden days, people painted hunting scenarios on surfaces. Colour is an essential element of the painting.It brings out the rhythm of whatever is being painted.For example, black is associated with mourning and sadness ,green expresses vegetation and colour red may mean blood or light .Painters deal with pigmentations for example blue has indigo ,azure ,cobalt blue ,teal ,sapphire, teal, midnight blue and others
Drawing is a visual art .It expresses the creativity of a person. It is one of the oldest forms of human expression .It was used for communication before the invention of written language. Traditional drawings had little colour It is the art of making images and illustrations using tools that are available online and offline .It involves making marks on surfaces by using dry media such as ink and pen, inked brushes ,crayons and charcoal .Digital tools such as pens and Apple pencil can also be used .Materials for drawing include paper cardboard ,plastic ,leather ,canvas and wood .Temporary drawings can be made on whiteboards or blackboards. Painting and drawing forms of visual art are appealing because they were there in the olden days .They are also easy and most effective to perform .They also express the creativity of a person.
- Performing arts
Performing arts are forms of art which artists use their voices to convey expression. Performing arts may include dance ,magic ,music ,magic, spoken word and circus .Performing arts are performed in front of an audience .Artists who perform art are called performers .They include magicians ,musicians ,singers and circus .Performers have an appearance ;they come on stage wearing costumes ,makeup ,background light and sound .Performing arts are performed professionally and are performed for a certain purpose.
Theatre is a performing art that is concerned with acting out stories in front of an audience using gesture ,music ,dance and sound .Theatre was present in the olden days .Theatre can be classified into different types ;drama ,musical theatre ,comedy and tragedy.
Drama is performed by actors in front of an audience .It is often combined with dance and music .Some dramas are written to be read rather than be performed .Actors have different roles .They are expected to express their role in accordance to what the drama being performed is expected from them.
Comedy is a theatre production that uses humour to tell a story. There is use of sarcastic dark words to create the humour element. Comedy was a taboo in the olden days because it didn’t create any impact on discipline or values .It was seen as a mislead.(Goldberg,2001)
Dance is also a performing art that refers to body movement toward rhythmic music .Dancing makes one feel happier and stronger and more importantly helps in maintaining fitness .It is also a way of releasing and generating emotions when done continually .Dance movements are organised in rhythm patterns .Dance is an expression of communication to people .The jumping ,movements ,stamping of feet and skipping expresses emotions Dance entertains an audience .Dance can be cultural ,social or modern .A modern form of dance is the ‘free style dance ’where one dances with freedom .This form of dance is relaxing and has no ‘rules’.
- Culinary arts
This is art related to food preparation ,cooking and presentation .People working in this art are called chefs or cooks .Chefs are required to know the science ,nutrition and diet of the food .They are expected to prepare meals that are pleasing.
Culinary began so many years ago .Early humans used fire to cook meat and natural herbs.
The most important tools for the culinary art are the kitchen utensils .They are used at home for cooking .Kitchen utensils are different in terms of materials they are made of .Some are made of wood ,plastic ,metal or silicon .Cooking techniques continue to develop over time .Some techniques originate from our culture .Different cooking requires different cooking utensils ,sources of heat and food .The culinary art includes specific areas such as nutrition ,food safety ,butchery and others .Culinary art can lead one to work in different setting for example ,one can be a head chef ,a baker ,a food manager ,a caterer and others.
Catering
Caterers prepare food for both the public and private personnel .They may prepare food for events such as birthdays, weddings, business meetings and others. Caterers mostly specialise in different types of food. Some may prepare appetizers, Italian food or desserts .They keep track of employees payment and revenues .Their payments vary depending on the number of clients and the type of food they specialise in. This culinary art doesn’t have a minimum education requirement. Their experience is mostly gained by internship or previous jobs.
Food service management
Food service managers are responsible for all the operations of a restaurant They supervise food preparation, monitor staff and ensure health safety rules are maintained .They ensure that customers who come to the restaurant are satisfied with the provided services .They also play an administrative role by planning the budget and paying employees .To become a food service manager, you should have attained a high school diploma in management.
- Wearable art
This is the art of designing pieces of clothing or jewellery. It is basically an art to wear. They are handmade pieces of jewellery and clothes .These pieces may be sold or exhibited .Most pieces are made of materials made from fibre.
Artists who create wearable fibre art may buy furnished fabrics and materials to make unique pieces .They also dye and paint the fabric to bring out uniqueness to the garment being made .People have opened local companies to produce quality fabric for making clothes at the best prices .
Wearable fibre art
This is the art of designing pieces of clothing or jewellery .They are handmade pieces of jewellery and clothes .These pieces may be sold or exhibited .Most pieces are made of materials made of fibre .
Wearable fibre art requires craft skills and artistic skills .One may need to study sewing ,design ,colour ,nature of fabric and others .Computer software such as photo shop and illustrator may also be used in the wearable fibre art.
It is not restricted to jewellery but can be seen in graphic shirts and pants.
Jewellery wearable art
This is wearable art that deals with accessories. It is the designing of fashion accessories .Jewellery can be made using materials such as gold ,silver ,gem ,stones to express different design .The most popular jewellery are made from gold and silver .Accessories bring out a sense of fashion .Jewellery may include earrings ,necklaces, rings ,pendants ,brochures ,cufflinks and others .Beads are mostly used in making jewellery .Beads vary in sizes. Some are big while others are small . They may be attached to the body or to clothes. Jewellery is used to symbolise a certain aspect for different cultures.
- Literary arts.
Literary art is an event of art that involves creative writing .The art of writing a text about anything can be included in the literary arts. Literary art uses language as a medium .They can either be oral or written .Their objective is to educate ,inspire and enrich .Some of the literary forms of art include poetry ,prose and drama.
Prose
It is a form of literary art that is described using free language. It describes facts. Examples of prose include textbooks, newspapers and novels .There are many types of prose; prose fiction, alliterative prose, prose poem and others .Most of the literary writing uses prose because it is not difficult to compose and understand.(Lehman,2008)
Prose uses grammatical sentences to form paragraphs .The words that compose prose are used in the best order in order to allow easy understanding .It is simple and easily defined for topical and fictional writing.
Prose has two kinds; romance and novel. Romance is a story that tells about one’s history from birth to the end of his or her life while novel only tells part of the life of a person.
Poetry
It is a literary art that is described using diction. It uses rhythmic qualities of a language such as sound symbolism. Poetry uses different forms to evoke emotions. The use of ambiguity, irony and other stylistic elements are used to express emotions. Figures of speech such as simile and metaphor are also incorporated to poetry to establish good communication from the poet to the audience.
Poetry is important because it helps one understand appreciate life .It literally teaches about how to handle living.
