The main role of profession is to save life by promoting the well-being of society and specific population. In this case, care to a specific population involves addressing health issues, such as diabetes, mental illness, or any other complication, affecting a certain group within the community. On the other hand, care to society is ensuring that everyone receives better healthcare for improved well-being. Therefore, healthcare professionals play a vital role in promoting access to quality and safe care for the population. In this case, they provide essential healthcare services that support health and prevent diseases to persons, families, and societies based on the primary care approach. As a result, they engage in extensive medical research to invent cure for new diseases. For example, healthcare professionals are currently doing research to identify a vaccine for the Covid-19 virus that has affected the whole world. Thus, their main role it to ensure the community remains healthy.
In the current nursing practice settings, healthcare professionals are liable to the community for providing safe, quality, timely, equitable, effective, patient-centered, and culturally sensitive nursing. In this case, the authority of care is based on social responsibility, where care professionals are required to provide healthcare to all people, regardless of social, cultural, or economic status. The profession delineates the scope of practice in a way that includes delegation based on the state statute equivalents or state nurse practice acts. For example, the RN can delegate work based on the condition and needs of healthcare consumer. Besides, a registered nurse assign task based on the complexity of the presented condition and the ability or qualification of the person delegated a specific task. It implied that the RN is accountable and responsible for a person nursing practice. Therefore, the registered nurse should use delegation authority to ensure optimal care is achieved.
In healthcare profession, care professionals accomplish their tasks based on a guiding code of ethics. In other words, healthcare professionals work under AMA Code of Medical Ethics to streamline the level of nursing practices within healthcare settings. One of the medical codes of ethics requires physicians to maintain enhance confidentiality of patient’s medical records. Under this code, it is only that patient that is liable to access his or her information. A third party would only access such information under the consent of the patient. A second code requires healthcare professionals to create and strength patient-relationship. The idea is to build trusts among the patient, streamlining the mode of care. In an interview with a registered nurse, it was clear that a positive relationship between the patient and physicians creates a comfortable environment for care. In this case, the patient feels free to share his or her information and responds positively to the treatment plan.
Section 2: REFLECTION /PERSONAL CAREER PLAN
As a nurse practitioner, I have learned what it takes to become a competent healthcare professional. Through extensive research and practices, I have acquired relevant skills and knowledge that define a competent healthcare provider. As a result, I believe I stand at a better position to fit in this profession. I consider this professional as an accomplishment of my lifetime dream since I was in my teenage. As a young boy, I witnessed my grandpa suffering from cancer. He could experience intense pain, forcing him to cry despite his old age. Unfortunately, he finally passed on. It is from that event that the urge to become a physician strike me. I wanted to enter this field so that I can engage in medical research, helping the sick manage their problems. My aim was to create awareness to the community by educating them on risk factors to avoid for their well-being. Luckily, I am in the path to achieving my dreams, believing that I will bring an impact and contribute to our healthcare settings.
Once I acquire the tittle of a registered nurse, my professional career is to work in the ministry of health within the government. I want to contribute my knowledge in transforming the status of healthcare in the country from governmental level. My goal is to engage in policy making that are of significant impact to the healthcare system. I want to see a country, where accessibility of healthcare services is available and affordable to everyone, regardless of their cultural, social, or economic standings. However, if my initial plan fails to progress as anticipated, I will continue to serve in healthcare care settings, helping patients overcome their ailing health complications. In fact, my dream was to work as a healthcare professionals, collaborating with fellow physicians to fine cure, treat patients, and improve the health well-being of the community. My desire is to witness a laughing smile on my patient after attending to their needs. With the level of competences in my educations, I believe I am on track to accomplishing this great role.
