The client named above is 18 years of age and was referred to the counselor after showing maladjusted behaviors within the school. To assist the client, the counselor was guided by a one week plan. The one-week program’s main objective was to help the client unlearn maladaptive behaviors and become a better person who is respectful, emotionally stable, self-aware, and sociable. Behavioral psychology principles guided the one-week plan, although some techniques were derived from other different psychological models.

After the first counseling session with the client, the counselor noted that some of the clients’ behaviors were adapted throughout childhood and teenage life. Thus, re-learning was the best alternative to assist the client in learning new positive and adaptive behaviors. The counselor also noted that some childhood experiences shaped the client, which explains the defiance elicited by the client. As a result, several techniques were used to help the client unlearn maladaptive behaviors, including role-playing, modeling, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. To further support the client, the client was taught several life skills. They include applying Daraja pillars in daily activities, decision making, communication skills, courtesy, etiquette, and self-awareness.

The one week program was a success since the client practiced most of the life skills throughout the week. Also, the client was able to deal with past experiences that triggered maladaptive behaviors. In general, the client is ready to take a new course in life and be a good person and a student. I recommend that the client be provided with a supportive environment since learning is continuous. The counselors will continue working with the client to ensure that they grow to be fully functional.
