In the reading, “The Person as a Meaning Maker: An Overview,” the issue that provoked my response is the argument that every act has a meaning. Every act aims at a higher meaning. Interestingly, I read for a purpose. I am also doing this assignment because I want to be knowledgeable. When I go for a break, I aim to relax so that my brain can be more productive. In fact, everything I do has meaning.
Considering the context of the author, a formal tone is used. Most of the arguments made are justifiable. The author seems to rely more on philosophy and rational thinking. Irrationality is avoided. Therefore, there is no probability that any of the arguments made can be flawed.
In my view, I agree with the author that every action has a meaning. The author makes an interesting argument that even trying to avoid the meaning is also meaningful. That is true. There are people whose aim is to negate the good deeds of others. In this case, they always try to prove what is meaningful as being meaningless. Regardless of the aim of every action, it must have a meaning.
The issue prompted my response because I never took the time to determine whether all my actions have a meaning. After going through the reading, it dawned on me that no action does not have a meaning. I might apply this perspective by trying to define everything that I do. I will always make sure that my actions are aimed at achieving my goals and objectives. I will put much effort into avoiding negative actions.
How I find meaning in life.
My meaning in life is bot created and discovered. When I proceed with my studies, I am trying to shape my future. The knowledge and skills I gain create my meaning as a future professional. When I read books and other pieces of writing, I discover some of my traits. I also learn more about my strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, I create and discover my meaning.
