USIKIMYE is a women-led organization that aims to respond and address gender-based violence crises and help people, mostly women and girls whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict, violence, and harmful traditional practices beliefs to survive, recover and gain control of their future. In more than 40counties, USIKIMYE dedicated teams provide through consent based referrals health services, including clinical care for sexually assaulted survivors, trauma counseling, safety and security, and legal aid. USIKIMYE runs a haven/shelter for survivors and ensures that once the survivor is physically and psychologically healthy and stable, she is economically empowered and reintegrated back into society.
USIKIMYE foundation has Rescued 296 survivors. 221 women, 8 men, 33 teenagers, and 34 children under the age of 7.USIKIMYE has also facilitated the rescue of about 40 survivors through community volunteers by availing them with transport and facilitating their access to medical care. Also, it Provided shelter to 68 survivors. Usikimye has had 37 long term residents at the shelter and 31 transitional temporary shelter residents. USIKIMYE offers temporary shelters to survivors at risk and needs to be relocated to more established safe houses with better resources or those that need a place to stay for the night before they access justice. Additionally, it has helped 13 survivors start and run sustainable small scale businesses and sought employment for about 14 survivors.
