The Regulatory Requirements Established By The Various Regulatory Agencies And Report Preparation Tips
This lecture aims at identifying the regulatory requirements established by the various regulatory agencies and report preparation tips. Employers are required by the OSHA Act of 1970 to report any incidents resulting in the death of any employee and any incidents resulting in the in-patient hospitalization of three or more employees. Fatalities caused by heart-attack at work must also be reported to OSHA. The Mine Safety and Health Act requires reporting of each of the following cases; death at a mine, injury that may cause death, entrapment of an employee for more than 30 minutes with a potential to cause death, accidental ignition of gas, and any unplanned fires within mines. MSHA also requires reporting any unplanned explosions of explosives at a mine, rock outburst that disrupts workers’ activity, or any event that results in the injury of an individual who was not at the mine when the event occurred. The Federal Aviation Administration is another agency concerned with Aircraft accident and incident reporting. The National Transportation Safety Board requires immediate reporting of major incidents related to highway, railroad, pipeline, marine, aviation, and hazardous materials. The State Workers’ Compensation Commission requires employers to report work-related injuries within a specified period of time. The lecture also discusses the three types of accident investigation reports: Accident log, Accident Form, and Accident Report. The information collected in accident forms includes facts about the date, time, and individuals involved and an analysis of the possible causes of the accident and any corrective measures to be taken. The lecture also discusses several details that should be included in a report and how they should appear in the report.
