The downward arrow technique is one of the techniques that are used to identify assumptions. The strategy or technique is used to facilitate the improvement of the symptom via cognitive restructuring. However, it is important that the technique does not go to the depth of spotting core beliefs (Cheryan & Markus, 2020). The best way to spot core beliefs is by utilizing different and more effective methods. It is important to note that the main focus of the technique is on the improvement of the symptoms. In this case, it means that the technique focuses on the aspect that can be easily controlled and, at the same time, easily manipulated. Even though the technique has been termed to be one of the best, it is important to note that it is limited. The fact that it does not help to access a person’s core beliefs leaves a lot not attended to (Cheryan & Markus, 2020). When dealing with a problem, it is important to pay attention to all details. However, it is an effective method to look for manipulated assumptions.
The Vertical Arrow Down is a technique that is associated with the name it holds. The therapist uses the technique to ensure that the core values of a person are identified. The core values of a person have an impact on the assumptions that a person holds. In some cases, it is important to note that the assumptions are not based on the patient’s daily life but are based on what the patient believes in (Cheryan & Markus, 2020). The technique is one of the best because of its ability to provide a lasting solution for patients. The best way to deal with an assumption is by looking at its core. Focusing on the core of assumption helps to deep-root it and present facts.
