Racism is discrimination by an individual, institution, or community against a person or people based on their membership of a particular ethnic group. In racism, there is a belief that groups of humans possess different traits corresponding to physical appearance. Racism has led to stress, which has negative side effects on human health. In Kenya, racism occurs mostly between the Kenyans people and Chinese investors.
An example of racism is when Zenah, working as a secretary, is being harassed by his manager on his appearance and questions her about Islamic customs. As time moves, Zenah begins to discover that his workplace is intimidating and hostile. Another example of racism is when a Chinese man working in Nairobi started calling his employee a monkey and referred to all Kenyans as primates. Another example also is Raphael, a Chinese man who had gone for a job interview as a sales manager, and he did well. The following day, he came with his wife, who is a Kenyan. The interviewer told Raphael that he would not be hired because of the color of his wife. Racism occurs in places such as sports, schools, neighborhoods, or workplaces.
