THEO 111 ASSIGNMENT 3
Gambling, the betting or staking of something of value, with consciousness of risk and hope of gain, on the outcome of a game, a contest, or an uncertain event whose result may be determined by chance or accident or have an unexpected result by reason of the bettor’s miscalculation and they are various forms of gambling recognized which include: lotteries, sports and horse betting, bingo, EGMs, card games, chance-based casino table games such as roulette and craps.
Moreover they are various factors that get to influence gambling in one way or another, factors like the alignment of gambling with culturally valued activities, their perceived knowledge about sport, the marketing and advertising of gambling products (and in particular sports betting) and the influence of friends and family. Thus this people are therefore likely to suffer from low self-esteem, develop stress-related disorders, to become anxious, have poor sleep and appetite, to develop a substance misuse problem and to suffer from depression.
Gambling Is addictive because it can stimulate the brain’s reward system much like drugs or alcohol can, leading to addiction. If you have a problem with compulsive gambling, you may continually chase bets that lead to losses, hide your behavior, deplete savings, accumulate debt, or even resort to theft or fraud to support your addiction. The badness of gambling is that there is no one who is lucky in both genders because it’s both addictive to both and thus they is no gender differentiation.
Moreover the Bible doesn’t directly address gambling and such silence provides the fertile ground for discussion and disagreement. Opinions on the propriety of gambling range from acceptance in moderation to total abstinence. However it also says that the sovereignty of God (Matt. 10:29-30), while gambling is based upon chance. The Bible admonishes us to work creatively and for the benefit of others (Eph. 4:28), while gambling fosters a “something for nothing” attitude. The Bible condemns materialism (Matt. 6:24 25), while gambling promotes it. In my opinion i would to emphasize that it’s not a good conduct at all for one cannot serve two masters at one time like serving God and serve the conduct of gambling so i take it to be a vise rather than a virtue.
Drug is a substance taken that alters our normal functioning of the body thus drug abuse is the excessive use of psychoactive drugs, such as alcohol, pain medications or illegal drugs. It can lead to physical, social or emotional harm. Thus it the following influence to un individual , it affects and costs the individual, the family, and the community in significant, measurable ways including loss of productivity and employability; impairment in physical and mental health; reduced quality of life; increased crime; increased violence; abuse and neglect of children; dependence on non-familial support systems for survival; and expenses for treatment.
However we can always help the influenced person by not blaming them or trying to protect them from consequences will not help a person struggling with addiction; this is because neither the person, nor their loved ones, has control.
Loved ones do hold a great deal of influence in the life of a person struggling with drugs or alcohol. Gathering a group of loved ones together to stage an intervention – as long as it is thoroughly planned and focused on helping the addict – can be a way to show love and support while also setting boundaries around addictive behaviors. Even just sitting the person down and talking to them about concerns in calm, clear, and concise way can have an influence. Repeatedly offering help in the form of social support, information on drug rehabilitation programs, and other methods to get healthy and sober may prompt the person to accept help.
