The Lean Approach

The lean approach is a concept that is adopted in the manufacturing sector. The process is considered to produce and deliver quality services where fewer resources have been used. Toyota Motor Corporation developed a Toyota Motor System by using lean as a concept. Reduction of waste and improvement of workflow is a priority of lean as a concept. The lean approach is the most effective in the business sector, especially for firms with scarce resources.

To start with, there are different types of waste lean approach figures out, such as overproduction waste. These are the products that are produced in excess. Inventory waste involves carrying more inventories than is needed at a given time. Motion waste amounts to unnecessary movements in the production process. (Perboli et al., 2018). Over-processing waste is that which amounts to what is more than what the customer requires. It gives no additional value and therefore needs to be eliminated. According to Boženko et al. (2016), when rejected work has been created due to a processing error, this means it is a defects waste. People, machines, or processes may be idling because something that is needed is not yet available.

The tools and techniques that are most commonly associated with Lean are Five-S workplace organization, which is used for continuous improvement, Visual workplace systems that are used to promote the case of communication, layout tool, Standardized work, Point of use storage, Batch size reduction, Quick size reduction, Cellular and flow, automation, pull systems and teamwork(Boženko Bilić et al.2016)
